No Heroes Here is a pixelated game about a world where there are no heroes. The greatest hero in the land is taken out, and it is up to the former NPC-style characters to lead the castle to safety. This game relies on the player having people to play with and gets rather hard playing solo. It is up to the players to work together to get things done and craft weapons to attack with.
The players choose from characters that clearly have no reason to fight. These include characters such as a priest and a jester. Teaming up is the only way to effectively play this game and going solo isn’t going to be good. Even the first level, while rather easy to beat, shows off the need to play with another person.
This game is built for co-op and can be played with local or online multiplayer. It’s a game that will only be fun when played people. I honestly felt stressed out playing this game solo, as there are moving parts and the enemies will come fast and often. Playing with a partner, of course, will take some getting used to, but once we got into a good flow, the game played far easier. I wasn’t worried about enemies attacking as I could effectively come at them with everything I could. It is paramount that players have a partner or they will fail.
Crafting in this game and using a weapon like a cannon takes multiple steps. The player needs to craft both a cannonball and gunpowder. The player needs to load the gunpowder and then the ball, launching it at the enemy. After that, one player will need to clean the cannon so it can be used again. This might seem tedious but there is a method to the madness. There are other weapons that take more steps as the player progresses, and it makes the need to work together even more obvious. I haven’t played a game like this in a while and it makes it seem like a novelty at this point.
This game is definitely one that will require teamwork, and figure out a rhythm. Don’t just jump into the levels willy-nilly, think about strategy. With enemies on both sides coming for the players it’s going to be do or die if the castle falls the level’s going to end.
No Heroes Here is definitely a game that should be played with friends. The opening level should be an indication that the player’s need to work together. There are literally no heroes in this game, only the leftovers, the unguarded; it will be hard to save the kingdom running solo.
No Heroes Here is a pretty solid pixely multiplayer game. The gameplay is quick and the need to play together adds to the fun. Running around the castle with friends is a blast and it is the high point of the game. Gather your pals, and save the castle as a bunch of loveable losers.
