Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory is a great RPG that was created By NIS America. This game tells two different stories on the Nintendo Switch and both are great tales of heroic deeds and harsh battles. It’s always fun seeing a game that shows off both sides to a story. It simply adds to the playtime and makes the game even more worth playing, especially with characters like these.
The main character of the game Sins of the Empire is Cecille, is a princess who is destined to rule the land. She has the magic grimoire, which allows her to summon heroes who have long since died to aid her. She has her own magic but if she is attacked she will die. It is up to her exemplars, that she summons, to turn things around and save the day.
Laender is the protagonist of the other game Flames of Rebellion. Flames of Rebellion tells a story of working towards rebellion. This man is not one to mince words, and isn’t thrilled with how things are going in the world. He is going to do all he can to change things and is a good foil for Cecille.
It is good to see that the game’s two stories are so different. Playing through both ties up the game in a great way, which is a good thing. It is interesting for the player to play through either story and then see what changes in the other one.
There are also important choices to be made at certain points in the game. These choices can change how the gameplay out as obviously different things will happen. This is also good for the story as players can come back and play the game again to see how the story changes. Even the smallest decision can affect things in a terrible way.
Battle in this game is different from other RPG’s. The characters do not run freely and have to stay by Cecille if she were to die it’d be a game over. Pressing the buttons allows them to attack, but it depends on how close the enemies are often. The exemplars have different weapons to fight with and while Archers can shoot from just about anywhere, short-range fighters need to be in the enemies face.
Since the player isn’t controlling them separately, there isn’t a way to guide them, and often battles are just determined by the enemy getting up in the player’s face and dying because they are too close. It is key to position the exemplars in the right place so that they can take down the enemies. Enemies have different moves and can attack different enemies.
Every battle also gives the player a ranking on how well they completed it. The player is rated on their defense, offense, and technique, as well as, their max chain. These categories have the chance to be rated as high as S, and will be marked in the end by an insignia. The play these again at anytime and that is good if the player wants to 100% the game.
There is also a lot of flavor text to show more of the world. It isn’t essential but the loading screens do tell a lot of information the game otherwise might not tell the player. These blocks of text are quite instrumental to fleshing out the world and it might behoove the player to read them.
The artwork in this game is fantastic. It is hand-drawn exquisitely and every scene is beautiful to see. The monsters and characters look great even when in the middle of battle. The artwork of this game is on display, and adds another layer to a fantastic game. The voice acting is also great and adds to the important story moments.
Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory is an impressive game, that holds two full campaigns. Both stories are different enough that the player can enjoy playing them in either order. Personally, I chose to play them a little bit at a time, but it is up to the player in the end. It is simply a great game worth playing, and that is what matters. Cecille and Laender are both primed and ready to change the world: will the player follow the ruler or the rebellion closer?
