OK, KO Let’s Play Heroes has become a little more special with, its show finished. OK, KO Let’s Be Heroes was a solid show that was Cartoon Network for a few years. While this game came out closer to the beginning of the show, it was worthy of a game. With Ian Jones-Quartey and his team working on the game, this is a super game adaptation. OK, KO Let’s Play Heroes tells a story about KO, a hero in training. He works at the Lakewood Plaza Turbo at Gar’s Bodega. The bodega is where all of the action takes place and where KO explores. While the plaza isn’t huge to a kid as old KO, it’s far more vast. It’s interesting seeing the world through KO’s eyes as he still is a child.

The game starts by introducing KO and his friends as well as the evil Lord Boxmore. It’s great seeing these characters in a similar yet different art style. It is oddly more cartoony than the show because it has to flow with the game aesthetic. KO and his friends are all heroes, and they each have their own Pow Card. The Pow Cards are magical and, once the character has one they are a real hero. KO finally gets one in the opening hours of the game. But then tragedy strikes as Boxmore attacks the Pow Card factory and takes it over. Suddenly everyone’s Pow Card is down to 0.0, just like KO. Everyone freaks out, but KO takes it upon himself to help them all and save the day. He might have just gotten his Pow Card, but he knows what it means to be a hero. KO will do whatever he can to take down Boxmore and right his wrongs.

The game is a brawling beat-em-up where KO slowly but surely gains new moves. KO can at first punch and jump, but as his powers grow, he can do far more. Players must chain attacks to up their power meters and do more damage to their robotic foes. It’s up to the player to take down multiple enemies that, for most, shouldn’t be hard. But as this is a kid’s game, it definitely could be challenging for some. Once the player gets far enough in the game, KO’s friend Dendy will give KO the ability to level up his stats. KO will take on multiple foes, and using certain moves will net him stat points. Once the battle ends, the player will bust a Boxmore pinata and gain stats. It’s great to figure out which moves up which stats and to use that to the player’s advantage.

Pow Cards are also a useful tool as using them can summon one of KO’s friends. KO must first gain the Pow Card through a gacha process of opening card packs. Gather ten Technos or the in-game currency and try your luck! Players will want to gather as many of these cards as possible. Doing so will save countless heroes from living forever as a level 0. There is also a pretty cool connection to the actual cartoon. Players can play the game and watch the show by doing so the player will unlock special codes. These codes are keyed in before buying a pack of cards. By doing so, players will be able to unlock three special characters. It is innovative to include something hidden in the show that directly connects to the game.

Players must take on quests every in-game day. They will be able to take one request from the main characters Gar, Enid, or Rad every day. Doing so will let KO clock out to gain more Technos. Helping any of these heroes also pushes the game’s narrative along and keeps things flowing. As they are the main characters, players will likely want to help them above others. Players can also take on quests from other characters. These quests might not push the story forward but are worth taking part in. Helping other heroes will raise their hero level and KO’s too. Help as many of them as possible to ensure everyone in the plaza is at full strength. Some of the quests might be fetch-quests, but plenty involve battle, and that means more stat increases!

Players will also take on a variety of bosses. The bosses are often far stronger than the other foes. Even if they seem like normal enemies, they can often have more health and thus will take longer to defeat. There are quite a few bosses to take on, and they help punctuate bits in the story, so its great. Plus, who doesn’t like taking on wicked foes who are smarter than average?

Every day KO will run through the plaza to take on at least three random battles. These battles are easily findable because they are kept in a Boxmore box. KO will take on these foes and gain stat points like he would with every battle. These battles are great fun and help to increase KO’s power. Plus, battles break up the somewhat monotonous questing just a bit. The game is great because it takes from the series its based on. The voice actors voice their characters, and it is fun running around the plaza. The game is like playing in the world of the show, and I appreciate it. I was always a fan of the show, so playing the game should be a treat for any fan.

OK, KO Let’s Play Heroes is a solid addition to the lore of this great series. Unlike many games that draw from shows, this is a good one. I was pleasantly surprised that I did enjoy this game. OK, KO Let’s Play Heroes is a game that should delight anyone who liked the show. Pick it up if the player wants to play a plucky young hero!
