When Divinity Original Sin 2 came to Switch, it was through a partnership between Larian Studios and BlitwWorks, who stated it was the most difficult project they had ever done in terms of the port. BlitWorks would later partner with Larian once again when the development team would form Larian Barcelona.
Recently, Larian Barcelona spoke with Spanish site 3DJuegos about the possibility of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Switch, at a time when plenty of speculation was circulating regarding more powerful hardware.
“We have no idea what Nintendo has in mind, and even if we did, we wouldn’t be able to tell, but when Nintendo has asked us for feedback as developers we have been very clear: either you put out hardware with more power and memory, or Switch will become (like) a new 3DS, totally removed from ‘the real world.’”
In regards to Baldur’s Gate 3 potentially ending up on the system, they noted that “history tends to repeat, so it would not be a surprise if we have to make a Herculean effort again in a few years”.
