One of the more controversial writers involved in the Warhammer franchise has been Matthew Ward. While we will not go into detail here about the controversies, he remains a divisive figure among the fandom, although some have taken their dislike too far such as with death threats and blaming him for things he was not involved with. With that said, Ward has announced his return to the franchise as part of the writing team for Warhammer 40 000: Darktide.

Ward has been hired as Creative Consultant, which in his own words translates to writer, voice director, lorekeeper and roving busybody.  Hopefully, the final Warhammer 40 000: Darktide product will be one everyone can enjoy and appreciate

Ward also confirmed that Dan Abnett is still involved with the project, which should assuage concerns some may have about the game.

One thing to keep in mind is that for all the issues some have with Ward,  he also gave the franchise the characters of Trazyn the Infinite and Castellan Crowe and also wrote The World Engine, regarded as one of the better 40K stories.
