Digital Foundry has run a tech analysis of Metro Redux on Nintendo Switch, and found some interesting things.
– In-house port by 4A Games itself
– Image quality, performance, and texture quality are the primary areas affected on Switch
– Temporal super-resolution used to achieve clean edges while minimizing artifacts
– Effective resolution is 720p, but there is more to the resolution than that
– Alpha buffers deliver quarter resolution output on Switch, so flames are chunkier than on PS4
– Image quality not as sharp as PS4/Xbox One, but aliasing kept to a minimum
– Portable mode is 720p, but pixel count can drop a bit more often than docked
– Switch version compares favorably to PS4 in terms of visuals
– Nearly everything carried over 1:1
– Loss in texture detail in specific areas on Switch compared to PS4
– Very responsive on Switch, input latency not an issue
– 30 frames per second on Switch vs. 60 on PS4
– Switch performance is extremely consistent
– Loading can be longer on Switch
