The modding scene for Elder Scrolls V Skyrim has been strong ever since the game launched in 2011. We have seen quality of life mods, fan expansions, new followers and more. One type of mod that has a lot of attention, are mods that seek to bring the older games in the series to Skyrim’s engine. Skyblivion and Skywind have been in the works for years, but a new name has entered the field in the form of Skygerfall, a mod that brings the main quest of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall to Skyrim.

It should be noted right away, that this is not the full game of Daggerfall. Much is missing here, but what we have is the main quest fully voice acted. The mod authors have said that they want to keep working on this and eventually bring as much as they can of Daggerfall into Skyrim. This will obviously take some time, but what we have here in the meantime is a rather fun experience. There are some other mods suggested such as Spellcrafting for Skyrim and Daggerfall characteristics, but many are linked to in the mod page, so there is no worry of where to look to find them.

There are a number of bugs with the mod, but it is also still in the early days since release and the authors have released a large ammount of updates since launch in an attempt to fix things. What we have now, are classic Daggerfall enemies and weapons, that behave the way they did in Daggerfall. Classic alchemy ingredients and spells also return and most of the locations are here, even some that are not relevant to the main quest. Obviously there is a lot missed without the sidequests, but what we have is a perfectly acceptable semi remake of Daggerfall. Out of curiosity, I tested the mod with a controller and found that it works perfectly that way as well. So for those who play Skyrim in that manner, you are not left out.

Skygerfall is a mod to watch over the next few years, as more and more content is added. While it is worth checking out now, it will only continue to get even better and seeing it progress will be excellent. I recommend giving this one a playthrough.

You can check out the mod for Skyrim here and for Special Edition here.
