Nintendo has filed some interesting patents lately and one recent parent has some major implications for Nintendo hardware.

Nintendo filed a patent on July 5th,  for technology that aims to convert lower-res images to higher-res images through machine learning. This is similar to DLSS from NVIDIA and FidelityFX from AMD, and while it would not totally convert blurry images into pixel-perfect ones, it will help with upscaling lesser-quality images to something that looks much nicer.

It is unclear what Nintendo has planned for this upscaling tech but it will be very useful for developers to have access to. It is possible Nintendo just filed this patent to protect the idea, but this does offer a lot of possibilities for future games and hardware. It is also possible that one use for this can be for re-releasing older games with better visuals.

Whatever the reason, it will be interesting to see what Nintendo does with this.
