The Shovel Knight series has been around for a while but has never done something like this. Known normally as a platformer, Shovel Knight Showdown aims to turn things up a notch. In Shovel Knight Showdown, players will duke it out to see who the ultimate knight is. With a solid roster of characters and even a story mode Showdown is a great new entry in the Shovel Knight series.Shovel Knight Showdown includes all of the characters from the series with their playstyles. It’s great seeing them battle it out in a different way than usual. There is a more chaotic nature to it all, as the game throws the player into different circumstances.
This game is filled with all sorts of different match types. Players can play 1v1 or with up to four players or computers. This game can get rather chaotic so its best to practice. With modes like Gemclash and Showdown among others, there is a lot to learn. Seriously, playing with four characters on the screen is the most fun the player can have. Even with computer players, it is a fun and exciting way to spend one’s time. I enjoyed battling it out to see who would win.Players can battle through story modes for each of the characters. Players will take on different enemies in different challenges. It’s great to see who the characters fight. Plus they also talk a little showing off how they feel about each other. It’s great to see them jab at each other before the fighting begins. Story mode leads the player through several stages that change depends on the player’s character. They might battle it out in one and collect gems to win the next.
Every stage is different and there are even mini-games in between. It’s very reminiscent of Smash’s classic mode. All in all, it is a fun time to be had and worth playing as it helps unlock other characters.There are quite a variety of achievements to unlock as the player plays the game. Some of them will take the player some time to clear. It fills the player with the chance to play the game in ways they might not have expected. This game certainly wants to be a favored fighting game and I enjoyed the energy behind it all.
Some of the challenges are fearsome, so it might be good to practice beforehand. The stages in this game are often based on locations in the series. Though there are new locations too. It’s great to see the Shovel Knight universe expand and I appreciate seeing new locations. It makes me excited for the future of the series as clearly, they are still working on it. I would imagine that we could get more spinoffs in this series in the future, maybe even a racing game?
The music is expertly made and makes every match exciting. It fits the vibe of the genre but also has the magic of Shovel Knight. Of course with Jake “Virt” Kraufman leading the musical way, the music would be good. It just goes to show that good music can make a good game a great one.
Shovel Knight Showdown is a fantastic fighting game. It takes all of the magic of Shovel Knight and puts it into a new genre. Seeing the characters battle it out is fun and fresh and rather chaotic too. With countless dream battles to have story modes and characters to unlock, Shovel Knight Showdown is a hit in the making. Which knight is going to win it all in this showdown, who is the player going to lead to glory?
