Ever since I was a kid, I have been a fan of Power Rangers. Yes, it is a show for children primarily but as with many youth programs, the show has come a long way since its debut ( Samurai and Megaforce not withstanding), and many who grew up with the show still watch and regard it fondly. And of course, I am a big gamer, but sadly when it comes to Power Rangers, there have not been too many good choices for games. Sure, the beat em ups on the SNES and Genesis were good, but they were not the best, and the GBA games had some interesting ideas, but really the only real standout game Power Rangers fans have had besides mobile games is Power Rangers: Super Legends for PS2, PC and Nintendo DS. It was a celebration of all things Power Rangers and this got me thinking about what the ideal Power Rangers game would be.

After some thought, I realized there was one option that stood out as absolutely amazing: Power Rangers Musou.  Merge the world of Power Rangers with the gameplay of Dynasty Warriors to create an epic game that celebrates the franchise and its legacy. Bring back big names like Austin St. John, Jason David Frank, Johnny Yong Bosch, Erin Cahill, Patricia Ja Lee just to name a few, and  make this the ultimate fanservice game.

But then there is something else. Power Rangers was based on the Japanese series Super Sentai, taking footage from the shows and mixing it with original footage. There were many seasons before Power Rangers and seasons that Power Rangers skipped or otherwise did not adapt, and that presents another opportunity: A game that is both Super Sentai Musou and Power Rangers Musou. There are a few ways to do this, including having both the Sentai and PR teams present and interact with each other, or do what Power Rangers Megaforce tried to do and adapt the Sentai only teams in new ways. Both could be emphasized in their own ways, such as including Sentai only villains or Rangers only villains like Ransik ( and Vernon Wells would be needed to reprise that role).

“But what about the Megazord!”I hear you ask, Well that is simple, just have a part when you control one of the various teams in one of their Megazords for boss battles, which is a simple approach. Alternatively, you could have the Megazords used to fight swarms of villains who have been enlarged by the villains. You could have team ups of the rangers and the Megazords, and maybe even new original Rangers and Zords/Zord Combinations.

I really hope Toei does consider this idea. Bandai Namco has worked with Koei Tecmo before on multiple Musou games, so that would not be an issue. This could be the game we Power Rangers fans have long wanted. It would suit the action well, considering how many fight scenes in the show are the Rangers fighting swarms of enemies already. To me, Power Rangers and Musou gameplay just seem like a match made in heaven. And if this does get made, we need Bulk and Skull to be present!
