Some interesting news has emerged that should excite fighting game fans.

Back in December of last year, a new playlist of videos called “Let’s make a fighting game” was started by Yoshiki Okamoto. Among the things discussed was that he, Noritaka Funamizu, Akira Nishitan and Yoko Shimomura want to make a new fighting game that they are describing as a “parody” of Street Fighter II.

They have since stated they want to regroup most of the original staff of Street Fighter II to work on the game, which is currently planned for Switch as of now, with PS5 and PC ports being possible as well.

They are looking to have 8 playable characters with 4 secret bosses, and want the game to be polygon based  but still have a retro 2D style of gameplay. Rollback is also noted to be a priority for the netcode already, and they have hopes to release updates as “Dash”, “Super”, “X”. These will bring faster speed and new characters, in the same way that Street Fighter II did.

We will keep you updated on further developments.
