Arcade games are getting more love than ever. Companies such as HAMSTER are bringing the classics to a new generation, and Flying Tiger Entertainment is becoming a force to be reckoned with as well. Their release of Gate of Doom wowed me with its presentation values, and now they have another arcade re-release coming with Bad Dudes. The game is infamous for its plot set up “Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president”, but is the game itself good?
Bad Dudes as an arcade game is very similar to the console release it later had, albeit with better visuals. Gameplay wise, I have to admit it is a bit boring. This was definitely not on the level of Final Fight and is lacking substance, albeit the bizarre setting does feel like it is more than just flashiness to hide a lack of gameplay. The setting and insane nature of the game truly is the selling point, and to be honest, you know what you are getting with Bad Dudes since its reputation precedes it.
One thing I again must comment on as with Gate of Doom, is the amazing production values of the release. Flying Tiger Entertainment has done an amazing job giving us the various styles of the arcade visual experience and I love that. There are so many games I would love to see them bring to modern systems in this format.
Do I think this one is worth getting? If you are a massive nostalgia fan, then yes I would say so. However, if you want a content heavy game then this is not the best choice. I do suggest checking out Gate of Doom as that one will give you many more hours of gameplay and shares the amazing presentation quality. I am eager to see what Flying Tiger Entertainment does next.
