Are you a first time parent who is going through all of those wonderful stages of your young child’s life?  Are you a parent who just got cable or has just decided to allow your kid to watch TV shows because they are driving you batty?  Or, are you a parent, who is trying to explore some different options of TV shows because that ONE show that your kid watches is driving you bananas?  Well, good news!  Here is the ROG New Parents Guide to Little Kids TV Shows.  It’s a comprehensive guide to the best TV shows out there, from one year to a little after post-toddler.  In this guide, we’ll take a look at shows specific to the Disney Junior Channel.

Doc McStuffins

Doc McStuffins is a little girl who has a magic stethoscope that allows her to speak to toys.  She becomes their impromptu “toy doctor,” fixing them when they break.  In later seasons, she actually gets transported to a toy land where she is the head doctor at a toy hospital.  It’s a really cute show that demonstrates all sorts of healthcare issues that kids should learn about.  Be prepared for all of the “doctor” toys that you purchase for your child to be related to Doc McStuffins.  She’s got hold on the market for anything medical related in the toy department.

Elena of Avalor

This show is a spin-off from Disney’s Sofia the First and concentrates on an older princess, Elena, in a cool, fictional Hispanic setting.  It’s geared toward slightly older children and has some really catchy tunes.  It revolves around Elena and her family dealing with the issues of ruling a kingdom while still making sure to spend time with family.  It’s not necessary to have watched Sofia the First beforehand, but it does help.

Kate and Mim-Mim

A good show for the really young child is Kate and Mim-Mim.  It’s very basic in language and pretty straightforward in story.  Of course, as a parent, your brain might start hurting watching it, but little kids love it.  Much like Muppet Babies, Kate has a very active imagination.  She has a little bunny stuffed animal that “comes to life” and takes her to an imaginary world any time that she has a problem to solve.

The Lion Guard

Set after the events of Disney’s The Lion King, The Lion Guard follows Simba’s son, Kion.  He leads the Lion Guard, a group that defends the kingdom and keeps the animals in balance.  It’s a cute show that does the Lion King justice.  It also has enough action and adventure that it’s not as mind-numbing as some other young kid shows.

Micky Mouse Clubhouse

Want a dose of Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto?  This is the junior version for them, and it’s really cute.  Plus, there’s singing, math skills, problem solving skills, and much more, so there’s some great educational content too.  This show has been around for years, and this is the latest version of it, sporting and updated look.

Muppet Babies

No, this isn’t the old school Muppet Babies we had as kids.  This is a reboot with updated graphics but the same style of storytelling.  The Muppet Babies live in a little daycare-like setting and have pretend adventures, using their imagination.  The adventures are transformed on screen, so it feels like they are really doing them.  There’s a lot to love here, especially with the emphasis on creativity and imagination.

PJ Masks

Kids love superheroes, and the PJ Masks are just right for younger kids.  Three kids fight crime at night (hence the term “PJ”) and do all sorts of cool stuff.  Connor, Amaya, and Greg become Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko.  They solve mysteries that have some moral lessons to them.  They are definitely a favorite of many kids and are one of Disney Junior’s more popular shows.

Sofia the First

It’s a young girl’s fantasy: An average girl’s life is completely turned upside down when her mom marries the king of the land.  Now she’s a princess with a new sister and brother!  Not only that, but her new dad gives you an amulet that has magical powers!  After several seasons, the show has changed a lot from the beginning.  However, it’s still a lot of fun.  Plus, it’s spawned the sequel Elena of Avalor, AND (most importantly) it’s on Netflix, so your little one can catch up quickly to the newest season.

Vampirina

This show is rather new and reminds me of a toned-down version of Hotel Transylvania.  A young girl whose is also a vampire moves from Transylvania to the United States and must learn to fit in.  Her parents run a Bed and Breakfast, and she must figure out how to fit in with a new culture.  It’s a cute show that is gaining a lot of following quickly.
