Trover Saves the Universe is a new insane creation by Justin Roiland, a co-creator of Rick and Morty. This game is an explosive one that brings in the twisted humor from that type of show and spreads it out into a gaming experience. While not the longest game because it is meant for VR, it is still worth playing.

The time put into this game is evident as it is like playing a Rick and Morty episode. The premise of the game is a weird one as these aliens appear and kidnap a man’s dog. By shoving the dog inside themselves, they gain insane power. Now it is up to a strange man to guide Trover to save the Universe.

These aliens are a breed that sits in a chair all day. The only way they can function is by holding a PS4 controller. Though the controller is actually apart of them. It’s a weird thing to see, but it works quite well in the universe.

Players soon meet Trover and he pushes one of his weird eyes into the player’s head. The player then can control the weird blue alien. It’s a little disconcerting as from that point on Trover has one eye. But soon enough players are battling for their life. Though it is funny because Trover is definitely the last being to even want to save the day. He is basically just pulled into this insanity and begrudgingly accepts to go along.

Trover can fight anything if he is controlled to do so. He’ll pick up weapons and beat his enemies senseless. It’s quite entertaining watching this psycho alien wail on his enemies. He is also rather nimble which is good as there is a good deal of platforming fun to be had.

Players will need to collect power babies. These little buddies are stuck inside alien eye sockets. As players defeat them they can gather these little friends to upgrade Trover and the player’s abilities. These abilities are definitely going to save their bacon, so player’s better start upgrading as soon as possible.

There a number of weird places to explore too. It’s definitely a highlight of the game that there are so many weird places to explore. The game also switches between first and third person so players can really see all the game has to offer. I won’t spoil these locales but they are all something to be seen, that is for sure.

The other characters in this game are all off the wall insane. It’s definitely a good game to play waiting for the new season of Rick and Morty. I found myself laughing a good deal while playing the game, and found the characters to be a good source of it. Players never know what kind of beings they will run into, there might even be one taking a bath.

There is just something about the animation of this game that is just perfect. The characters even if they might seem normal are just one moment away from revealing they are downright batty. But fans of Rick and Morty wouldn’t expect anything less than the weirdest from Roiland!

The lines, of course, are ridiculous and do not shy away from cursing. This game definitely isn’t for everyone, but the people that it is for will certainly like it. Though obviously younger people into Rick and Morty will certainly want to play this wacky game. It’s certainly worth playing if the player’s like the humor of Rick and Morty because Roiland doesn’t disappoint.

This game can also be played in Playstation VR, which I don’t have. But it is another great way to play the game. The world is ripe for exploration and feeling like the player is part of it would add to the fun. There is actually a good deal to see so if somebody has Playstation VR I’m sure they’d have a ton of fun.

Trover Saves the Universe might not be the longest game, but if the player is a fan of Rick and Morty they will surely enjoy it. There is a lot of platforming fun and combat to enjoy. Trover might not want to save the Universe, but he is going to, will he have the player’s support?
