Spyro is back and better than ever in a remake of his original trilogy. Spyro has been away from his own series for a long time, ever since the Skylanders craze started. It is good to see him back in the spotlight. The Spyro series was a big hit in the ’90s and spawned many sequels which inevitably led to the toys to life franchise Skylanders. This Spyro trilogy is a magic remake of the original trilogy and is sure to delight old fans and new.

The Spyro Trilogy was lovingly remade by developer Toys for Bob. They have painstakingly worked to make this series shine like new. It’s great roaming around the worlds that as kids we fought to restore. It’s also great that a game like this is coming back because now new fans of Spyro will be able to see where he came from.

The games themselves are just as grand as I remembered. Always worth exploring and, in my personal opinion, far better than Crash Bandicoot. It’s great seeing these games restored to their former glory with all of the bells and whistles. The achievements also add another layer to the great series that makes completing it feel like new again.

Spyro has a great wit to it, and the writing is still as great as it ever was. It’s fun seeing what characters have to say especially when Spyro talks because he is rather snarky. Players can also learn to play the game by interacting with dragons which is great for newbies and maybe even oldies who haven’t played the games in a while.

Spyro is a game all about bashing enemies and turning them to ash. Spyro can often time take out smaller enemies with fire but the bigger enemies will need a good bashing. He can also sail over them and bash them from behind which is also a good tactic.

The levels themselves are rather massive with plenty of gems to collect and fun to be had. The worlds themselves are separated by balloon flights. Spyro will have to fly to each level as the game loads. The game is also great for completionists as it tells the player how much of the worlds they have completed as they go. I enjoy seeing how much of a game I’ve completed; it makes me feel like I’m achieving something.

While the game itself isn’t usually too hard, except for those who are platformer challenged like me, there are flying levels. These levels are often hidden until players do certain things, and can be rather difficult. Players will need to expertly dive at the right times and work out keeping as much air as possible while also being timely. These levels might take multiple tries but they are fun in their own right. It’s great to take a break from the regular levels and delve into the challenge of collecting all of the goodies in these levels.

The games also have boss fights which are fun to take on. The bosses have all been cleaned up and look better than ever. It’s a wonder seeing them shine, as they are often quite hideous. Using what Spyro knows, the player should be able to dispatch them all with relative ease.

Spyro is back with his original adventures suped up and ready to go. Join Spyro and help him take down the villains such as Ripto who helped propel this little dragon into the hearts of anyone who played the game. This is also a great introduction to this amazing series and is sure to be fun for newbies too, even if the game might be a little hard by modern standards. Spyro needs help in restoring his dragon friends, and taking back eggs, is the player up to the challenge?
