Terroir which is out now for Steam, is a game that tasks you with making wine. In this game you are given all you need to make wine and run your own vineyard. You get to name your estate and are thrust into this new world. In this game you are given funds to start out and can set up your land as you see fit. This game is certainly an interesting one, and even though it may not be for me, it made me want to do better. There is something about seeing the literal fruits of your labor, being changed into wine and being sold that electrified me. I wanted to make better wine, and I did eventually do so, but every batch is a crapshoot in a way.

As you set up your land, you obviously will have bigger batches. This will lead to better wine, or it should. Honestly, I wasn’t so sure how to really make my wine better, even with the tutorial. The Tutorial really goes over everything, and has a refreshing sounding British woman, going over the ins and outs of the processes. This makes for a nice change of pace as she actually reads out the steps to you. This game is very interesting in that it really does want you to succeed. It gives you all chances to succeed if you really work to.

The land is cultivatable, and you can adjust to your liking. Depending on how your land is set up, you can have a massive vineyard. You can set it up however you like, with lakes, forests, and even deserts. All of these different areas affect the crops around them. The main thing is that you pick your grapes at peak freshness which on a scale of 1-10 is around 5. This will allow for the best wine, and that is of course what you want. Getting this is no easy feat as weather can really put a damper on your parade. Plus you need to pick your grapes by November or risk losing them all indefintely. After picking, you must crush and eventually store your wine in barrels, before bottling your sometimes horrendous wine. All steps lead to different results and it is up to you to figure out how to correctly bottle all of your wines. You then arrange a tasting party which will give you reviews and a sticker prices. Sell your wine, to stores and get ready for the next batch.

All in all this game is a good one for wine enthusiasts. You don’t have to actually have the capital to create your own amazing wine if you buy this game. This game while not for everyone, does a great job in showing off an intricate process. There really are a lot of steps that go into this and I was pleasantly surprised by how detailed this game really is. If you are a fan of wine, and enjoy methodically planning, then you may certainly enjoy Terroir. If this at sounds interesting, this game is available on Steam right now. So, head down to your new estate and make some wine!
