Wolfenstein is a legendary series that has been played for years. With this new game, the heroic BJ Blazkowicz takes the back seat as his daughters head out to save him. Though with his help, surely he hasn’t left them up a river without a paddle.

Jess and Soph Blazkowicz are both dependable and fearsome fighters. They were trained for years by their amazing warrior father. BJ spared no expense or time in making them the best they can be. Which is why it is so easy for them to get into the thick of it. However, these girls never fought in actual combat. It is great to see them struggle with the idea of killing and then slowly grow to be okay with it. They know that the only way to save their father is to take out the nazi’s and while it might take some time they soon find themselves taking out the villains without a second thought. The girls are joined by the Resistance Leader Juju, an intelligent and calculating woman. She knows BJ and is glad to have the girls aboard, but she might be hiding something. The girls realize that is their only lead so they don’t have any choice but to join her.

Young Blood is an interesting Wolfenstein game because players, play the game with two players. They can either play with a friend in local co-op, play with a computer, or match up with someone online. It’s interesting playing with the different styles as obviously, the experience is always different. The computer players play decently but playing with someone online is a crapshoot. One never knows who they are matching up with and that could lead to a bad match.

Players will work together with whoever they are playing with to take down the Nazi’s. There are special boxes to open that will take both girls to open them. These boxes restore their health and allow them to resurrect one more time. It is important to use these because players might get wiped out repeatedly. Players will also need to open gates and do other actions with both girls so it’s necessary to have each other’s backs. Players can revive each other a certain number of times before its game over, so be vigilant. The girls can crawl to their sister and hope they can be saved without using a precious revive. It is possible to bleed out if this isn’t possible but if the other sister is in the same state it will lead to a game over.

The game itself looks rather nice and is brimming with life. There are platforming sections where players will need to bounce from platforms or even up shafts. The world begs for some exploration and while it might not be the most varied, it is worth taking a deeper look. There are many enemies to kill, and different bosses to take out. The first boss, for instance, isn’t one to play around and might cause new players grief. It’s great to figure out the weaknesses, and slowly learn how to take them down.

In the game, players can upgrade their weapons, which will greatly help the player. The twins will pick up scrap and other components to upgrade weaponry so always be on the lookout. There is also a skill tree, that players will fill out as they play the game. These skills can be new attacks or buffs, but they all help make the game a little more personal. It’s a plus to be able to change what skills the girls have to make the game the players. I will never hate a good skill tree.

Players will also take on quests and unlike other games, players do them in whatever order they want. Within reason, players can take down objectives as they want to save BJ and the world. It’s great to have some freedom as it will make multiple playthroughs a little more interesting. Players can also change how the sisters look. Their armor is customizable and there are plenty of options. It’s great gathering items and working to make the coolest armor. While it doesn’t do much in-game, it’s nice to have the girl’s look as cool as they can.

The voice acting is also solid, and it is nice hearing the characters talk. It is always easier identifying with a character when they speak. Since the girls often wear a helmet its good to hear them speak. Plus hearing the Nazi’s yell awful things makes killing them so much easier. They don’t speak cleanly and there is a shift in how they handle themselves compared to the heroes. This game also has solid music that plays. It has an 80’s vibe since that is the time it is set in. There is just something electric about 80’s music so its a welcome addition to this game. The music keeps the player rushing through and helps to keep the game alive.

The Deluxe Edition of the game grants the player access to a Buddy Pass. This is a genius idea because it allows the player to share the game with a friend. By doing so they can play the entire game together from the comfort of their own homes. It is worth it for those who want to share this game with a friend and only buy one copy.

While it isn’t the greatest first-person game out there, it is a fun experience. Running around blasting Nazi’s is always fun, especially when someone as cool as BJ is the one they are saving. There is a wild 80’s vibe to the game, and it makes it even more exciting. BJ is in trouble, will the player team up with his daughters to rescue him from evil?
