Lapis X Labyrinth is a dungeon crawling anime-styled game coming to Nintendo Switch. In this game players will brave wicked dungeons facing multitudes of enemies as they rise the ranks in a guild. It might seem a little similar to Mystery dungeon games but plays differently.
This game is all about the main character traveling to a town that is about to vanish. This town is on its last legs, and without funds, it will certainly become a noman’s land. There is something about bringing a town from the brink of destruction that makes it all worthwhile. There are a few people here hoping for a miracle and it is up to how the player plays to dictate whether the city will flourish or crumble.
In Lapis X Labyrinth players will make a team of warriors. These warriors are based on different classes and will offer up different stats. It is good to mix and match the characters and work to increase how much potential hp they will have.
There are eight different player classes to choose from. They all have their own look and fighting style. It is definitely good to pick a balanced party and then switch out from time to time to have a nice even bunch of characters to choose from. These options might not be endless, but it’s still fun setting up a team. I personally think the Destroyer is the best of the best, but that’s just one man’s opinion.
There are other weird characters in the game. The quest kit is a mimic like creature that sits upon the heroes so they can travel into the dangerous dungeons. The mayor of the town is seemingly a simple girl but one wouldn’t want to cross her or her butler. There is even a reporter broadcasting the success of the hero, so the player should try their best, the town depends on it!
This game is a different type of game than I was expecting. I wasn’t expecting a platforming timed adventure. Players will need to run through different levels to help their guild. Stacking the right characters is important as they are the only way the player is going to succeed.
As players continue through the game their guild rank will rise and the challenges will get tougher. The enemies will get wilder and will do all they can to kill the heroes. It’s a little disheartening watching all but one of the characters die, as they lose so much power.
Players will guide one of the characters and throw the others. By throwing the others they gain access to special powers. These powers are dependent on the class of the character. They can be downright devastating if used correctly. Some of them simply make the party invincible while others can cast a huge destructive spell. Work to find the best party and use these skills to wreak havoc!
Fever mode activates as player’s wallop the enemies. This mode makes the character’s invincible and provides them with tons of treasure. Defeating enemies and hitting gems will cause it to rain money. One of the best times to use this is when the player perceives they could be defeated as it can change the tide of battle.
There are also one hundred different enemies for players to encounter in the dungeons. Some of them are actually quite cute but others are pretty frightening. There are boss monsters too, which can just be larger versions of the earlier beasties. But some are unique and these monsters take the cake. Working together with the squad should be enough to prevail against anything, right?
There are a lot of treasures for players to collect. It is quite fun seeing what players will collect as they travel through the game. These treasures are necessary to rank up the treasure rank. As this rises players will gain the ability to open up more chests which will yield weapon rewards. The first rule of dungeoneering, find the most treasure possible and get out alive.
The hometown is the reason for this adventure. By defeating enemies and clearing challenges the town will restore itself to its former glory. There are a number of facilities in the town that will be of use to the adventurers. There is a lunch shop which provides buffs, a dojo to help raise stats, and even a foundry to increase the powers of the enchantments. Bring a lot of money because without it the town won’t be of much use. By using these facilities players will certainly find they are more than enough to clear any challenge before them.
Lapis X Labyrinth is a stunning game and one that is filled to the brim with combat and platforming. It’s definitely nice filling out a party with characters named after their friends. Will the hero and his pals save the town and bring on the riches, or will it stay a ghost of its former self?
