Dead Cells is a game that has received a lot of support from its developers since its release, with DLC releases and free updates that have brought fresh content. Now The Queen & The Sea brings the final DLC to the game with two new biomes and a large new arsenal of weapons. There is also a new summonable pet to assist players, but is this all worth getting?

The Queen & The Sea builds slowly as players need to accomplish a set of tasks in specific areas in order to gain the items necessary to make it to the new biomes. Once this is done, players can proceed to the Sunken Ship, an alternative to High Peak Castle that leads to the final location, the Lighthouse, where a new final boss awaits. The tasks to reach the sunken ship are not really an issue, but be aware that these levels kick up the difficulty a great deal even without boss cells.

The Sunken Ship is steeped in Lovecraftian themes and enemies but is also home to some great environments that will excite players. As this area is more horror-themed, expect to find enemies that embrace this aesthetic, and be ready for a fight. Some enemies will emerge suddenly so choosing the attack strategy is important because the wrong move will mean death. There are also a lot of secrets to find and new items to add to your inventory, so make sure to explore everything.

The Lighthouse is a different matter though, as while both the Sunken Ship and Lighthouse are difficult, the Lighthouse is difficult in a different way. Players must keep moving up to avoid a rising floor of doom while fighting a series of boss fights en route to the top. These fights are difficult though and one wrong move when ascending the lighthouse will cause a quick death so plan accordingly for a boss rush in between a constantly moving level.

On top of the lighthouse is a new final boss, and while no spoilers will be given here, there is a great challenge for players and brings a satisfying end to the experience that all players will enjoy.  The Queen & The Sea brings a real challenge to players but the new weapons also make a big difference as does the new pet, the Leghugger.  The game feels both more difficult and more comedic at the same time thanks to this DLC, with horror-focused levels and comedic weapons and items to find making a very interesting blend.

Overall,  The Queen & The Sea is a great conclusion to the DLC trilogy and a great way to cap off Dead Cells. This is more of the excellent gameplay players have come to expect and be prepared to lose so many hours to the game as it will draw you in once more.
