Seven Deadly Sins or Nanastu No Taizai is a popular anime. This anime tells the story of Meliodas and his six friends the Sins. After a vicious attack, the Sins seem to have vanished. A princess tracks them down and finds herself face to face with someone who was once a legend. Though now he seems to be a boy, someone who doesn’t look like they have experienced much. With this boy in tow, Elizabeth is sure to turn the world on its head.
Knights of Britannia tells the story of the anime. It guides the player on a journey through the events of the story. The player will play as all of the main cast and even some of the secondary characters. The levels are broken up into different sections that the player must complete. The world slowly but surely expands as the player completes objectives and the story continues. The combat in this game is best described as chaotic. Players can master combos but the game can also be played by button mashing. Sometimes the time given is absurdly low as the enemies are so spread out. Players must run back and forth to make sure they’ve taken down all of the foes that stand in their way. The fast paced combat takes the edge off but it can be tedious battling through the same objectives over and over if the player fails.
Meliodas and his friends travel in Boar’s Hat restaurant which sits atop Hawk’s mother. The restaurant will roam about the world and might find secrets. This restaurant is the home base for the characters and they will often interact within. This is also where players will be able to select quests. Some of these quests are simply out in the field but others are in specific towns. Most of these quests revolve around the player choosing a pair of characters. They can mix and match any of the sins and take them on missions. There are also levels where Elizabeth must gather items. She is under the care of Hawk who will gladly protect her from anything that dares attack. These levels are a little more tedious as sometimes Hawk doesn’t attack as quickly as needed.
To complete the game fully players will have to return to the places they’ve explored before. Some objectives only open up when the player has collected the right character or gotten far enough in the story. It is always good to explore the past areas until the game says they are 100% complete. It’s often easy to do this as the game doesn’t hide this information from the player. Players will find special items after completing the objectives. These items are important as they are used to complete the skill tree. It’s always good to complete as many sidequests as possible to unlock the power of the tree. The skills held within will certainly help turn the tide of battle. These skills are equipable and thus help increase the power of the characters. Players can equip different skills onto the characters depending on how they fight and how the player plays. Some of them are aggressive magic wielders and others simply hit hard. Plan and figure out the move-sets before setting up the equipment it might save the day.
There is also a fighting game tucked into the game itself. Players will slowly but surely unlock different characters to play as in this fighting game. They can then choose a locale and the characters to fight with. Set up the dream battles the player has always wanted to see. It’s great watching characters throw down, that might not battle on the show or in the manga. This game is a dream come true for people who wanted to see say Hawk fight Gilthunder! There is also an online mode for players to take part in. They can battle it out with people playing the game online. I wasn’t expecting an online mode but I suppose online modes come with fighting game territory. It’s different battling people online especially in something secondary. Though I will always prefer local play as couch co-op is often ten times more fun!
Seven Deadly Sins Knights of Britannia is a stellar adaptation of the series. While the mechanics might not be anything to write home about, I enjoy the series so the game is fine by me. The frenetic combat and fighting game are just a plus. This game takes the player on a magic journey and lets them experience the story differently. Meliodas needs to help Elizabeth take down the evil within the kingdom, will the player help them out?
