The Sword of Ditto is an incredible new adventure game built for cooperative play. This game while fun solo shows off its stuff when played with a friend. In this day and age, there aren’t that many cooperative games so it is a good thing this game exists.
The Sword of Ditto tells the story of the eponymous Sword of Ditto, a weapon that takes the form of a human. With this mighty power, the world has a chance to take down the wicked sorceress Mormo.
The world of Sword of Ditto is a unique one in that, the hero winning or losing changes the appearance of the world. If Mormo is victorious, the monsters grow stronger and the world becomes bleaker. It adds a layer to the gameplay, as the player will ultimately want to keep making the world better. Watching the world decay before your eyes, will make the player want nothing more than to always win.
The Sword of Ditto is a fun game because it changes with every playthrough. With this game style, the player will never know what will come up next. Every playthrough will be different with different weapons, items, enemies, and bosses. The game itself is rather short as it usually takes less than 4 hours to finish a round.
The game itself takes place in an open-world setting with players attacking swarms of enemies. The players will often have to clear floors of enemies before progressing. There is a chance to grind for coins especially with the enemies who spawn more help.
It is also worth noting, that the amount of time the player has to defeat Mormo changes with every round. In my first playthrough I had 6 days but in the second I had 4. This makes the player focus on the game, and take everything they do into account. Health can be restored with food, but to get more the player usually has to buy it. If the player returns home, they will lose a day, which can be a bad thing. The game world can be pretty daunting in its size too, but players can fast travel with the magic kazoo. All in all, it isn’t hard to grind, buy, and heal up.
The items in this game are hilariously overpowered at times. The player can buy magical items from the store with money they accrue in the game. Buying things like a giant foot or a super suit will allow the players to deal more damage. It is also interesting to note that the weapons in this game are considered toys. Heading to the toy store is always a good idea as the player will only get weapons there.
There are also stickers to buy which will assist the hero even more. These stickers come in many different styles and can augment the power of both the hero and the weapon. Using the right stickers can give the player abilities and a leg up on the enemies.
Playing this game with my sister, I found myself enjoying the game more than when I struck out solo. This game flows nicely, and while the puzzles can be done by yourself it is infinitely better to have a partner. The game itself also has three different difficulties for those who want a challenge.
The Sword of Ditto is a beautiful game to look at. Its cartoony feel is perfect for such a game. The characters all look great and there are quite a few. It should be noted that the player’s character is randomized. In my first playthroughs I was just a human, but when my sister joined in she was made to be a robot. This also adds a layer to the game as the player never knows what form they will take.
The puzzles may not be the hardest but they are definitely going to add to the fun of the game. They are definitely akin to the puzzles of The Legend of Zelda and that is good in my book. With the randomization at play in the dungeons too, the player will always have to keep on their toes and bring the right gear. It adds another layer to the gameplay because everything consistently changes.
The Sword of Ditto is a fantastic game that plays nicely. In this magic game cooperative play is key and it is fun playing with a friend. Have a blast and see what characters, weapons, and stickers you will find. Pick up Sword of Ditto on April 24th!
