Beat Cop is a game that was released a few years ago but is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch. This game tells the story of a cop that is thrown from his job due to unknown reasons. Clearly, someone upstairs didn’t appreciate him and decided to take him down a few levels. Beat cop tells the story of Officer Kelly and his new life as a beat cop.

In Beat Cop, players roam a beat playing as Officer Kelly. Kelly is responsible for keeping his beat safe. He stops crimes when need be, and checks on cars when they are parking for too long. The player is able to accept or reject bribes and choose how our hero responds to situations.

Players lead Kelly to help people in the game. He will deal with mobsters, civilians, and all sorts of different people. He can make friends or enemies with everyone. Some of these people might be the best friends he could ask for, some might stab him in the back. It’s all about who he knows in the end.

Players will find many people who are ready to give him help in any way they can. Check in on who the player finds worthy, as it really does change the outcome of the game. Some of these people are just out for themselves, is it a good idea to help them? Watch out for people who offer their help with the dark side of the city, they might be Kelly’s biggest foes.

Players will walk the streets and solve crimes. They might need to chase and handcuff a perp which is always fun. Players will also need to write tickets and place them on the car. They then need to call a tow truck, but this doesn’t always go down so easily. In this game people might come and attack the cop because of this. Players can then choose to accept or reject a bribe to end the encounter. Though players can ticket the wrong car or do it for the wrong reason. Ticketing for the wrong reason will lead the hero to trouble.

There are light puzzle mechanics in the game as well. Sometimes players will need to sort out things in a perp’s pocket. This is a seemingly simple minigame, but if the player screws up too many times they will be caught. Always take time to do this right because sometimes player’s will need what is in people’s pockets.

Players will get bored eventually of doing simple cop duties and will want to find out what went wrong. Players are free to dig about and uncover the mysteries but some of them are not meant to be uncovered. What might seem like a clue could lead the cop into something he’ll never get out from. It’s good to follow clues, but sometimes players need to back away from a lead before it messes them up for good.

This game is a glorious representation of what cop shows in the ’80s were like. A playable representation that I didnt know I wanted. Players can take to the streets and obliterate the people that roam them. There is no reason not to have the player’s guard up, as everyone in this game is only after themselves.

This game has multiple endings which change depending on the cop’s actions. He’s been framed for quite the crime, will he make that deviant pay? It’s great to play a game like this where every action has its consequence. Take care not to anger the wrong people or this cop will find himself six feet under.

This game is definitely not for younger gamers. This game is filled with innuendo and crude humor. Profanity is layered over the world, and violence is often the key to victory. It’s great to play through a game that doesn’t pull any punches in the cursing department. While most of the time cursing in games might not be great this flavor text shows what the city is really like. It also spices it up and makes reading text just a little more fun.

Beat Cop is a classic looking cop game and one that isn’t for the faint of heart. This game is crude and knows it, and that is awesome. Beat cop has a rich story and players will want to know why Kelly was made to be a Beat Cop. If the player has any interest, Officer Kelly could use some help in unraveling a big mystery.
