2064: ROM Integral is a fantastic game set in a future world. This game has a deep and meaningful story. This game has been released on other platforms but has a new home on the Nintendo Switch. This game might have looked good on other systems but there is something magic about playing it on the go. This game has something about it that makes playing it on the go so appealing.

ROM takes place in the far-flung year of 2064, in a world that is far ahead from our current time. The world is flush with new technology and robots live alongside humans. Everything isn’t peachy, however, and a young journalist is about to find themselves in an unbelievable situation.

After submitting a review for the player character’s headphones which can connect even to the sink, the character’s life is turned upside down. A small robot appears in the player’s apartment and when they awaken the player is thrust into finding out who killed Turing’s master. Turing, the small blue robot was created by an old friend of the player, who they haven’t seen in a year. The player and Turing head off on a quest meeting vibrant and interesting characters.
Where this game shines is in the storytelling, and this is a rather long story. There’s the devil in the details in all of this, and it is important to read all that is shown to the player. The characters all have pasts that might not be clean but they are far more real than many characters in other games. There is something about having a beautiful world and wondrous words working in tandem that makes this game special. It feels like the player is playing through an old-school text-based game and that is magical, especially for those who like to read.

The characters also are not limited to simply being guys or girls. The player is even told to choose their pronoun and can make their own if they would like to. It’s interesting to not have a preselected gender because it means that anyone can feel comfortable about playing this game. This game is one that wants players to feel as if they can be themselves even in a game. Nothing is solidified so players can adjust to their needs and that in and of itself is a good thing.
2064 is a thrilling adventure game that while filled with a lot of dialogue and reading to do, it makes the player feel. Seeing how actions in the game affect other people and change how the story goes is fulfilling. Will the world be better because Turing exists or will everything go down the tubes. This world is ready for change and Turing is the catalyst so the player would do well to work with him. 2064 is out now on Nintendo Switch, is the player up to make right a world gone so wrong?
