Toki Tori is all about gathering up eggs for a Chicken. This little chicken has quite the adventure ahead for him in 20 levels. Thirteen of which are easy, seven that are hard, and three that are bonus! Though if the player does complete all of the levels they will be rewarded with more! These levels add different things as they progress making the game more exciting which each level the player completes.

Players ultimate goal is finding every egg in the levels. Players will gain access to different things such as bridges and even time travel. Players can rewind time if they ever get stuck allowing for players to fix mistakes they might have caused without actually leaving the level. I am always a fan of time travel in games even if it is just a simple rewind feature.

Players also need to be wary of enemies who roam the areas. These enemies will always instantly kill our precious hero. Players are given the chance to rewind time though instead of starting the level over again. This game is about solving the egg collecting puzzles and players will get stuck if they don’t pay attention.

Players will gain access to six different items including the aforementioned bridges and time travel. They will also gain teleportation and even a freeze gun to make short work of enemies. These items are always given a small number of uses after completing their tutorial level. It adds another layer to gameplay that helps keep this short game interesting as the player plays through each simple level. Players will also face levels where not all of the powers are usable. This is useful in making the levels just a bit more challenging as players will probably assume they will always have access to all their powers.

There is also a skip feature if a level proves too hard for the player. While every player only gets one wildcard, beating the level will return the item to the player. This might be good for those who get stuck in a level as often times coming back to a level will make it that much easier to complete. Having even a single skip in a puzzle game is good because it lets players continue on if a certain stage is bothering them.

Toki Tori is a simple yet fun puzzle game. The music is great and adds to the experience of the game. It’s charming playing as this little chicken who just wants to find all of the missing eggs. The backgrounds look nice, and it plays decently too. The mechanics all slowly add up making a grander game and that is why I probably enjoy it so much.

The animations are also quite cute, and seeing Toki movie around is always nice to see. He is rather quick and can climb ladders with ease but doesn’t seem to have the ability to jump. The enemies while not the most vicious are also cute for what they are, little green porcupines. It’s simple just a cute puzzle game that might scratch the itch of anyone fancying a puzzle game!

Toki Tori might not be the biggest game but for what it is I enjoyed it. Toki Tori tests the brain just enough to make it rewarding for players to play. There is always something new to be found as players venture through the levels. This chicken has lost its eggs, will the player help it find them?
