Zanki Zero is a new game coming out in about two weeks, with the impending release a demo has dropped to give players a feel for it. The demo itself is the first few hours of the game and it really sets up players to jump in and continue the game. I honestly had no idea what to expect with the demo, but I was glad that it is about the first 5 hours of the game.

Zanki Zero is a fantastic anime styled game. It’s rather similar in a way to the Zero Escape series where characters are trapped in a strange place. These young people don’t know how they got trapped on Garage Island but it is apparent that they will have to do all they can to survive here. An island is an unforgiving place and the group will have to do all they can to live. This Island will provide if the group is smart enough, but there is always a chance that they will die by its hands.

Zanki Zero is an awesome game that plays like an old school dungeon crawler. Players move on a grid and take on enemies as they approach. As players move the enemies move usually, but if players turn enemies can come closer. It takes a keen eye to avoid combat and sometimes it is definitely necessary to simply stop fighting.

There are eight different characters on the island. They each have their own motivations and personalities. It’s interesting watching them interact because they don’t seem to have any reason to be together. Though there are connections that lie in their past. The only way they will be able to get through this event is by working together though.

The combat in the game takes a little getting used to as players will attack and then have a cooldown. Players can charge up their attacks and doing so will unleash a combo attack. The enemies might start out as simple goats and rabbits but will soon become far more dangerous. The player learns that while there might not be any humans around, maybe the monsters once were just like you and me.

The demo itself charts the first hours of the game. Players will learn about the controls of the game, build a toilet, meet the characters and even take on their first dungeon. This is a comprehensive demo, and once played the player should know if they want to continue the journey. I honestly had no idea that this demo would be so long.

The Zanki Zero demo is an excellent one, that I had a great time playing. I was sure that I wanted to play the game before I started the demo but playing through it, has cemented that fact. Zanki Zero is definitely a game to look out for especially if the player has enjoyed series like the Zero Escape series. While this game is gruesome and dark, it is also vibrant, humorous, and charming. If the player wants to try out this demo they most certainly should as Zanki Zero launches on April 9th!
