Hand of Fate 2 is out now on Nintendo Switch and is quite the fun one. This game has been out for a while on other platforms but plays rather well on the Switch. This game is unlike other’s I’ve seen and I am enjoying it greatly. It is a breath of fresh air to play such a unique game.
Hand of Fate 2 tells the story of how the main character arrived at the dealer’s house. This magical man wants to tell the player the story and it is up to the player to guide it. Clearly, the character has survived the journey as they are playing a magical game. How will the player make their story, it often times comes down to the player’s judgment.
Hand of Fate 2 is a card game of sorts where the dealer will lay out cards and the player must travel along the path. As the player plays they will unlock event cards and participate in different actions. The game has quite a variety of events and it is interesting seeing how they play out. Many of these events will require a roll of the dice or a picking of a card so victory is never assured. As the player wins rounds they will gain cards that they can use in later levels. It would behoove the player to stack the game board with helpful cards rather than difficult ones.
There is a rather rudimentary character creator, and the player can change their character at any time. They can either choose to play as a female or male, and that is a good thing. They will also choose a hairstyle, hair color, and skin color, as well as choose the locale the hero is from. These characters are human and there is no way to get a non-human character.
This game also has battles which play out differently depending on the player’s actions. The player may be able to pick up a band of allies or even a single ally to help them. They will choose weapons and charge into battle dodging multiple foes at times and while trying to pick them off one by one. There is also a combo system, where a counter appears and that is the reason in and of itself to quickly win the fight. The player’s health only restores with items so watch out how much damage the player takes. The player might not have access to a lot of food and that can often spell death.
The player is tasked with playing through many different rounds of the game, each of them getting more complex. The first game is only about six cards but it continues to rise. The player should collect cards by replaying past levels should it seem too arduous. The past levels will give cards that the player can use to stack the deck as it were. This game can be made harder of course by choosing cards that don’t benefit the player or require a large margin of luck. It is interesting to be playing the game while in a way the player is making the game. This game is truly a game about choices, and it shows clearly through everything.
Hand of Fate 2 is a fantastic looking game that is filled with character and stories. The main characters might not be the most attractive but they fit the terrible world the player often finds themselves in. The scenery is always nice to look at as there are a good amount of locales. It’s nice to play a game set in a medieval time with such an interesting card based overlay.
Hand of Fate 2 is an interesting game that tasks the player with an exciting quest. This game is a game of chance, a duel of wits with a magical dealer, one who knows how the player got to him yet also doesn’t seem to know a thing. It’s intriguing to see such a character, and the player is drawn to play through the game to find out their hero’s story. Will the player stick through to the end, or will the dealer win this hand of fate?
