Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight is a classic plane flying war game and one that is rather simple to play. Warplanes is all about flying around Europe and completing tasks for the side the player sides with. The player gets a feeling for what war in the 1940s was like and it can get rather intense.
Players will start the game by choosing a side in the war. They will choose between the UK, the USSR, and Germany. Each of these three sides plays the same but there are differences in how they communicate. The dialogue will be different depending on which side the player chooses.
The game will then be launched into a first campaign where they will learn how to fly. The game controls are simple but might take a little getting used too. The player will originally use one plane to shoot down foes but will soon gain access to other planes. They will eventually muster a small fleet of planes each with their own abilities.
This game is great for beginner players as it will lead them on a comprehensive tutorial. As soon as the first mission ends the player will be briefed on all of the goings on in the game. This makes the game very accessible especially since it has so much the player must do. There are a lot of things that will help the player and this tutorial will continue to spell it out for them until they have a good handle on it all.
The hangar is where players will set up their loadouts for the game. Players will be able to see what their planes look like and check their stats. It is rather informative seeing what kind of power each plane packs. Plus the planes are historically accurate so that also adds to it.
This game is also about preparing the right people for the job. Players should be mixing up who is taking on the missions and not overtaxing their pilots. Players also need to be vigilant as the game progresses the enemy will get bolder. Soon enough they will be sending out the same planes to take the other side down and include new units.
As a leader, players can teach their comrades skills and level them up with funds in their possession. Make sure to keep leveling the characters up to add power and skills to their arsenal. Doing this will ensure that the army is headed for victory.
Players will need to play all of the types of levels to maintain a stock of provisions. Every level type uses a different type of item and they return the favor with another type of item. Balancing play time between the four game modes is important. The commander of the base will always try to keep the player informed about what they are in need of.
Players can also upgrade their base with more tanks and storage to allow for more funds to be stored. Sometimes players will be forced to use a lot of energy in a mission but without storage space, they might not be able to carry it all and it will be lost.
If players are up to achievement hunt this game has them covered. Players will be able to complete missions whilst playing the game. These trophies will also garner rewards of gold and silver which are important to keeping the base thriving. All in all, they help to assure that players who want to play this game will be consistently rewarded for doing so.
The game itself looks nice though is simple standard WW2 fare. The backgrounds are polished and the player has a lot of room to move about in. Players will often need to lock on to enemies or risk missing their targets. The places are rather empty though and it sometimes takes a while to find the foes. The foes also respawn if the player isn’t able to take them out quick enough.
This game also has light voice acting which keeps the player grounded in it. Players will listen to a simple introduction at the beginning and then throughout the game will hear light bits of dialogue. The accents are pretty great and add to the ambiance of the game. There is actually quite a bit of dialogue though it does end up repeating itself depending on what missions the player undertakes.
All in all this game has all it offers, a simple yet fun plane flying war game. Players will take on missions and help lead their side to victory in war. With a number of planes and simple game modes, anyone can fly planes for war. While not the greatest game this is surely one many will find worth playing. Players must also be aware that there isn’t a save function in the game until the player completes the story mode. I closed the game and didn’t realize I’d have to start it over until it was too late.
Warplanes is a simple World War 2 game but is one that plays as it should. Players who enjoy WW2 will surely enjoy playing this game. Though to be honest the only group I found I wanted to play as was the UK. If players have a need to fly planes in the fog of WW2, then this game might be the one for them. There’s a war going on, which side will the player help lead to victory?
