I like several games from Headup Games, and am always curious when they release something new. That said, they do not always release something that is all that spectacular, and unfortunately they sometimes release an absolute clunker.Unfortunately for Headup and everyone else, Tied Together is most definitely a clunker of a game.

To begin, the game has controls that are plain terrible.  The game’s core tether mechanic doesn’t actually work all that well, and even gets in the way of progressing. It feels like there were bugs in the game engine that should have been ironed out before release. If your core gameplay hook does not work well, then there is an issue. The tether should not be pushing when it should be pulling.

Another issue with that mechanic is tied to the overall environments. Some stage hazards are positioned so poorly, that the flawed tether actually forces you into said obstacles rather than giving any real challenge. There is fun to be had in the game though…for about 5 minutes. Then the frustration sets in and the game becomes something to avoid.

The game is designed for several players, but the more players in the game, the less fun it really is. I am not sure what went wrong here, but I cannot recommend the game as is. The overall environments are bland and generic, and the sound quality is awful. Headup Games is better than this, and I am saddened that they put out this mess for sale.

I am very serious when I say that Headup Games has published much better games before. The Bridge Constructor series is amazing and I recommend checking that one out instead. If you prefer something else, then Earth Atlantis may be more up your alley. Those are amazing games from this company, but Tied Together should just be avoided at all costs as it is one of the worst games of the year.
