Aggelos might start out as a simple platforming game but soon evolves into a masterclass on the subject. Aggelos takes place in a fantasy world where an evil lord is trying his best to take over the land. It’s up to the main character to take him down and find the four elemental energies.

In Aggelos the main character wakes up one morning to go and fight monsters like he usually does. He soon finds himself facing a large monster and then saving a young woman who happens to be the princess. After bringing her home, her father sends him on his world-saving mission.

Aggelos is fun yet challenging platforming adventure. Players will run through the world and take down enemies while they time their jumps and play precisely. The platforming and fighting is definitely is similar to Megaman. Players will need to work to take down enemies and live. As they move between screens the enemies will also respawn so players will need to be on their guard.

The platforming is something that I would not have expected to be so precise. There are points in this game where players will need to both time their jump and jump into the unknown. I’m not the greatest platformer so this was an arduous challenge. But I’m sure that players who are fantastic at platforming will truly enjoy this game. It’s definitely something that makes this game worth beating as winning the platforming sections feels so good.

The world of the game is reminiscent of Zelda II which is interesting. This game style works for this game and makes the rest of the platforming feel that much more fluid. Players can travel around this world and eventually teleport freely between the areas. There are also helpful shopkeepers and even a healer who will provide the hero with a free revival herb. It’s definitely important to talk to everyone as the player never knows where a new quest will come from.

Players will gain hearts from chests and by completing sidequests so its good to talk to everyone and finish as many sidequests as possible. There are quite a few to clear and they often can be quite challenging. There are even some that are based on platforming and that definitely can make the challenge even harder to take on.

This game provides the hero with experience points as they take down enemies. It’s good to beat as many enemies as possible to level up and increase stats. The stats might not seem important at first but it is definitely good, to raise the hero’s level as high as possible.

Players will also find new weapons and armor which they can buy with the massive amounts of coins players find. This game does provide an amazing amount of coins. I had no idea there would be so much money, but money flows like water. It is easy to gain money though as the enemies will always respond.

There are also different animal trainers, who will teach the player different abilities. The first one is reminiscent of Bottles the Mole. It’s great to find these creatures as they teach the player new things which help bend the game to the player’s will. They then go over a tutorial which will ensure the player’s know how to use these powers.

The bosses in this game are fantastic. They are rather large and take up a good deal of the screen. It’s great to battle them and figure out how to take them down. There are quite a few bosses for the player to take down, and they each, of course, have their own fighting style. I enjoyed seeing what bosses would pop up in each location.

The art style of the game is also rather stunning. This game is reminiscent of the old 16-bit games, with a modern flair. The game looks retro yet so solid, and it works in its favor.

The music in the game is also great and fits every different scene. There was clearly a lot of work put into this game’s music and it shows. I really enjoy going to different places to hear the different songs that pop up.

Aggelos might seem like a simple platformer at first, but it slowly becomes an arduous experience. The learning curve is steep but clearing the hurdles is so fulfilling. This game might not be for everyone, but if the player is up for a true platforming challenge, this game might be for them. There is a world in trouble, will the player help this hero save it?
