It is a sad day for gaming fans as, multiple Japanese publications are reporting that the keyboardist and founding member of the Japanese band Moonriders, Tohru Okada, passed away last week on February 14th due to heart failure at age 73.

While well known for the band Moonriders, along with Keiichi Suzuki, co-composer of the Mother series  Okada had a major role in other music groups as well such as Life Goes On, as well as his solo projects, but internationally, it is his contribution to gaming that he is best remembered for.

Okada was the man responsible for the iconic logo sound that appears at the beginning of PlayStation adverts and does so to this day, in addition to composing and producing the music for various Crash Bandicoot ads in Japan.

Condolences go out to his family.
