Double Pug Switch is a great puzzle game that’s out now on Steam and consoles. This game tells the tale of a scientist and her pets. After an experiment goes wrong, a scientist finds her cats sabotaged it and sent her pug into another dimension. It’s now up to her faithful pug to save the day and return home in one piece. Double Pug Switch is a platformer where the main character consistently runs. Players must time their jumps right and get to the goal safely. This game isn’t overly complicated, but players will need to work on timing their jumps. The pug will run towards the goal; at a breakneck speed, and sometimes it gets rough.
Players will often switch between the two pugs, and yes the experiment gifted the pug the ability to switch to his other dimensions counterpart. When they swap, different objects can be touched while others cannot. It’s a simple system at first, but the levels quickly become more challenging as the player must deftly switch between them. As someone who isn’t much of a platformer, it did get hard. Players can be happy that there are, in fact, checkpoints. Though sometimes, the checkpoints can be a detriment. There were times where speed was necessary, and I’d hit a checkpoint. Dying at certain checkpoints can cause the pug to stall, making the next jump nearly impossible. It’s easy to restart the levels, and even if a checkpoint has been reached it might be necessary to start it over.
This game is separated into five different worlds, and the pug must dash from beginning to end of multiple levels. Dodging and jumping through different locales like the future, the past, and a few others. It’s refreshing to see the pug run through different environments as the pug actively is trying to save the world. There are many hats for the pug to wear. As players collect currency of which there are two forms, they will be able to buy different hats. These hats often are named with puns which make them even better. Players can choose whichever to deck their character in, but my favorite was a scouter from Dragon Ball Z. They may be cosmetic, but a little customization goes a long way.
Double Pug Switch is a great game that may not take long for players to play. It might take a while to collect all of the costumes but, it’s still a heck of a lot of fun. Double Pug Switch is a little more challenging than it may let on, but it is still a simple and quick game. A pug needs to get home, will the player help him and his dimensional counterpart save the day and get home?
