Wasteland was one of the most important RPGs ever made. A post apocalyptic CRPG, it influenced the development of so many classics including the spiritual sequel series Fallout. After an absence of decades, the series made its return with Wasteland 2 and now that game has come to the Switch. Wasteland 2 proved itself to be a truly excellent game when it first released, but how does the Switch version hold up?

I should get the bad out of the way first, and that is that there are several performance issues in this port. There are framerate stutters, slowdown issues and some screen tearing present in addition to some loading issues. That being said however, these issues are present in almost every port and are not any more serious than on PS4 or Xbox One and are due to the engine used.

Now for the good parts. Wasteland 2 is a welcome return to the classic style of CRPG that the first two Fallout games were. In fact, Wasteland 2 feels very much like Fallout 3 if it were still done in the classic style, but with modern updates. The game controls very well on Switch, and if you take the time to familiarize yourself with the controls early on, you will have no issues as you play.

Wasteland 2 is a difficult game, but not an unfair one.  You will learn how the world works soon enough, and find yourself immersed deep in the world. You will need to be strategic as you progress, and build yourself and your party accordingly because you are in a post apocalyptic world after all. This is no walk in the park, but a quest for survival in the ruins of Arizona.

.There are numerous characters to interact with, and where Wasteland 2 shines in this department, is the minor details involved in the interactions. Yes you can get guest party members, but the interactions with NPCs right from the start are amazing. They help make the world feel truly lived in, and I have to commend the excellent voice acting in the game, as it gives everything an authentic feel,

If you like classic CRPG games, then you will need this. Taking Wasteland 2 on the go is a real treat, and even with the performance issues, the game is all here. I enjoyed this on the Switch as much as I did on PC, and that is the highest praise I can give. I highly recommend this.
