Vienna, Austria, New York, NY, USA, February 16th 2017; 2008’s Lock’s Quest is the newest entry in THQ Nordic’s MAP (meaningful asset-program). The MAP is THQ Nordic’s internal (game) plan on which IPs to focus mid to long term, but that’s not important right now. Lock’s Quest is one of those hidden gems that will profit from MAP and will be released in April 2017 on PS4™, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Originally, Lock’s Quest has been released on the Nintendo DS back in 2008, and is going to be “mapped” for April 2017 on PS4™, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Developer Digital Continue (based in New York City) had to walk a fine line between keeping the visuals and core gameplay of the Nintendo DS, whilst revamping UI, adapting controls, remastering the music, and adding a new progression system which is integrated into the storyline.

“We had the great opportunity to work with people from the original development team of Lock’s Quest, and things clicked right off the bat”, comments Reinhard Pollice, Business and Product Development Director at THQ Nordic. “It is one of those hidden gems and a fan-favourite, so when things fell into place, we quickly decided to do this.”

This is a game I had missed out on when it first released, and the remake sounds very promising. I am happy to see THQ Nordic reviving so many of the IPs that they own and updating them for modern audiences. Hopefully they continue this trend, because the games they have are amazing. and the work they are doing with them is very high quality.

Epic Games sent out the following

Today, Epic Games has announced the latest Hero, Shinbi, for its free-to-play PC and PlayStation 4 MOBA, Paragon. Shinbi will be available for free this coming Tuesday, February 21.

A world famous pop star known for summoning Spirit Wolves during her performances, Shinbi is a deceptive melee assassin who uses her wolves to dazzle her enemies and rip them to shreds in battle. Get your first look at the extraordinary pop star in this announcement video

and get a closer look at her abilities with this ability overview video. Aa detailed list of her abilities can be found below.

  • Rushing Beat (RMB/R1) – Shinbi dashes forward passing through enemies and dealing damage, she can also re-trigger quickly after to dash again.

  • Line Tempo (Q/Square) – A Spirit Wolf is summoned and runs out in a straight line, passing through minions and dealing damage. The wolf explodes on contact with an enemy Hero.

  • Circle Rhythm (E/Circle) – Shinbi summons four Spirit Wolves that circle her for 4 seconds, which deal damage and heal Shinbi for each hit.

  • All-Kill! (R/Triangle) –  Passive: All of Shinbi’s abilities apply +1 Spirit Wolf stack per hit to enemy Heroes, building up to eight stacks.  Active: When activated a pack of Spirit Wolves attack the closest target with the highest number of Wolf stacks, sending one Wolf per stack.

WB Games and NetherRealm Studios have released a new trailer for Injustice 2. This trailers shows off the characters Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Cheetah and Black Canary.

 

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment unveil a brand new Injustice 2 trailer celebrating some of the DC Universe’s most iconic female Super Heroes and Super-Villains. The action-packed trailer reveals Cheetah and Catwoman, along with a first look at Poison Ivy gameplay. Players can witness these fan favorite characters duke it out with the likes of Black Canary, Wonder Woman, Batman, Swamp Thing and other Injustice 2 powerhouses – proving that each these formidable ladies is a force to be reckoned with.

These iconic female combatants show you who’s boss in this action-packed trailer proving that any night is ladies’ night. Bring your squad to the fight!

NetherRealm Studios and WB Games have put out a new trailer for Injustice 2. This new trailer shows off Swamp Thing, who had been a long rumored character for the game. The character looks to be one of the most creative characters in a fighting game, with all that can be done. Also in the trailer is more of Robin and we can see the interaction between the two characters. The game is looking better and better with each trailer and should be an amazing experience. We will have a review of the game up shortly after launch.

Funcom sent out the following

 

Conan Exiles, Funcom’s new multiplayer open-world survival game, launched successfully into PC Early Access last week. The game has been dominating the #1 spot on Steam’s Global Top Seller List and Funcom is both thrilled and grateful to be able to share that the game sold 320,000 units first week and that all development costs have been recouped. Looking ahead, Funcom is working hard to live up to the Early Access goals and will be working together with the community to improve the game and update it with exciting new content and features.

“We are deeply humbled and very grateful for the initial success of Conan Exiles,” says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “Funcom has gone through some challenging times in recent years and seeing the game we have poured so much time and effort into gain this amount of traction so quickly is very invigorating for everyone who works here. This is just the start of the Early Access adventure and we will do whatever it takes to make sure Conan Exiles turns into a fully-fledged game that has something to offer new and old fans of both Conan and survival games.”

Funcom today also released the custom Conan Exiles Dev Kit allowing creators everywhere to develop modifications for the game. Anyone can now create and upload ‘mods’ to the Conan Exiles Steam Workshop, whether it’s small changes and quality of life improvements, or total conversion mods introducing new creatures, characters, and worlds. To get started, head over to UnrealEngine.com and download the Unreal launcher to access the dev kit.

Funcom is also excited to share that it will reveal the future of Conan Exiles at this year’s Game Developer Conference in San Francisco. Here press will get a glimpse at what is coming and will get an exclusive first showing of new content and features the team is working on. Funcom will also be present on the showfloor at PAX East in Boston, where gamers can drop by to play the game and chat with the developers. Funcom will also be handing out exclusive print copies of its custom Conan Exiles comic book produced by Dark Horse Comics.

The sudden high influx of players immediately from Early Access launch was higher than anticipated, and the team has been working around the clock since launch to iron out the teething issues. The official servers had to be taken temporarily offline due to issues with the original provider, but new official servers are now being brought online and players can also jump onto over 12,000 privately run servers. The developers have patched the game many times the past two weeks, and going forward the team will be divided into those who focus on fixing issues and optimizing performance and those who add new content and features.

These are all really good things and good news for the game. I think I will have to re-review the game sooner than I thought. If you have not yet seen it, my review is here. I hope this continues to be a great ga,e

No GravatarThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim received a remaster last year, with a  Switch port coming this fall, and ESO is getting a new Morrowind expansion. But what does the future hold for the series? I have some hopes for the next game and I would like to share them here.

1)  Continue The trend of Morrowind and Skyrim: The 3rd and 5th game, unlike the first 2 and 4th, had a very distinctive setting that was wholly unique. They really showed off the distinct cultures the games wanted to show, and I would love for the 6th game to continue this trend. While I would love the rumors of the game being set in Valenwood to be true, I would be fine if it wasn’t, as long as the land of the setting has a distinct feel.

2)  Refine the combat: Elder Scrolls combat is typically a low point for the series, and comes off as a cross between action and hack n slash while not feeling at home in an RPG. A better combat system can be done without sacrificing too much of the series identity and traditions. It just needs to be touched up for a bit.

3) Test out a game with the new engine before Elder Scrolls VI: Every Bethesda game launches with bugs and glitches of some kind. I would like to see Bethesda test out the new engine they will make, on another game before the next Elder Scrolls. that way it can launch with less bugs and less rushing, especially if the engine is better understood.

4) Give us some information about the previous protagonists: We know very little of what happened to the previous protagonists of the series. The Eternal Champion has been the subject of debate among fans, and the Agent of Daggerfall is assumed to have died due to the Warp but we don’t truly know, and the Nerevarine hasn’t shown up again despite being immortal. In fact, only the Hero of Kvatch has shown up in a later game and we don’t have an answer as to what will be of the Dragonborn. Some insight into the past protagonists would be nice.

5) Better marriage and children system: In Skyrim you could get married but it was a very basic system with nothing really to it and it felt lacking. Adopting children was a neat touch but it too missed something. There is a lot that can be done to improve this mechanic for the next entry and make it a part of the game that truly makes it stand out.

6) Continue some plot threads: Skyrim left a lot of lot threads unresolved, such as the Thalmor issue. While the Dragonborn’s tale is done, the next hero can take on the task of helping restore Tamriel to its former glory. if the Bosmer will be the focus of the game, then this is a great way to make the war with the Thalmor a focal point. there can even be conflict among the Bosmer themselves over who to side with. This isn’t the only plot thread, but it is the one that stands out the most, and the one I will use as an example.

7) Expand the cast and design team: Skyrim had limited voice actors and as such, many characters shared an actor/actress. As well, the dungeons were designed by a  small team of people, and this made the game feel very repetitive at times. A bigger cast, and a large design team can do wonders to create a more diverse atmosphere for the next game, so that it does not have that some problem of feeling repetitive and too much the same.

8) And lastly – Experiment with something out of the box: Morrowing and Skyrim are often felt to be the best in the series, and both tried something very different and ended up becoming big successes. Sticking to conventional ideas is okay, but as with Oblivion, it feels too similar to fantasy ideas in general. Do something different and stand out more. Give your game a unique identity and character.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole was originally supposed to release last year but received a delay until March. However, as was revealed in Ubisoft’s latest earnings report, the game has been delayed into the next fiscal year.

This is extremely disappointing, and I must wonder if there have been development issues with the game, due to having a different developer than the previous game South Park: The Stick of Truth. However, it is also possible that the game has been delayed to add more content, or even to bring it to other systems. Whatever the reason is, I hoe the finished product is a good one.

The Entertainment Software Association has made major changes to E3, since for the first time ever, the expo will be open to the public this year.

15000 general public tickets will be available at e3 2017. Tickets will be priced at $250, however there will be an early bird discount bringing it down to $150. If you go, you will have access to panels, presentations and most events at the show.

Geoff Keighley will be involved with this change, and will offer access to special benefits associated with his own E3 programming, such as developer interviews and other events.
