Some games just work. There is no other way to say it other than that. Broforce is one such game where the premise inherently makes the game awesome. A contra style game starring characters based on iconic characters like Rambo and Robocop and with fully destructible environments, instantly gains your attention. I played Broforce on Steam and PS4 previously, and I have to admit that I was a bit worried about the Switch version. The reason for this is that the PS4 version was not very good after the first few levels. There were numerous issues that hampered that port and led many to call it “Brokeforce”. So how did the Switch version hold up?

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the game plays wonderfully on Switch. I encountered few issues, except on much later levels, which was a nice change after my experience on PS4. The game makes great use of HD rumble on the Switch, and you can feel every explosion and gruesome interaction. Nothing is lost between docked and handheld mode, and taking the experience on the go is awesome. There were a couple of issues on later levels as I said, but they are fortunately not too severe and nowhere near as numerous as was on PS4 at that system’s launch. This is a very smooth experience overall, and I had a good time playing it.

For those unfamiliar with Broforce, you play as characters based on iconic tv and movie characters as mentioned above, but renamed of course. We have Rambro, Brobocop, Bro Hard, Brade and more, each with their own unique attack style and special ability to assist them. You can also destroy almost everything in the levels, which can lead to new paths and ways to kill enemies. However, it can also lead to you dying if you are not careful, or making the level unfinishable. One hit kills you like in Contra, but you get more lives per level the more bros you recue.

Broforce is definitely unique, and is one that Switch owners should not pass it up. I highly recommend this.
