It is well known that Sunsoft was working on an NES game based on The Terminator. In 1989 Sunsoft lost the movie rights as the game was being worked on, and made changes to the project which became Journey to Silius.
New details have since emerged about the game thanks to Gaming Alexandria. It turns out that Sunsoft lost the rights to The Terminator because the game didn’t follow the plot of the film. Sunsoft planned to have it take place in the future as opposed to the modern day. The game would also involve artificial intelligence Skynet taking over the world with its army of robots, instead of featuring Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor’s fight against a mechanical assassin.
Gaming Alexandria has secured an old promo reel from the studio that shows the only footage the game as it was. We may never get to play it, but we know now what it looked like.
