Crash Team Racing is a celebrated racing game from a bygone era. This game is one that many people enjoyed years ago on PS1 brought back into the spotlight. A game that is worthy of all the praise it gets but probably should get some closer examination.

While Crash Team Racing is a solid game, it was originally built for an older system. That plays right into the fact that players can play in what is called classic mode. This mode is a cleaned-up version of the old game. Players will choose a character and then jump right into the adventure mode. While this mode might be great, it only is a ton of fun for people who have played the original.

For example, I never played Crash Team Racing. I was a Nintendo baby, and didn’t have access to the system, so classic mode isn’t as exciting. The nitro-fueled mode is great though because it changes things up. It’s perfect for just about anyone who wants to play this game. Players get to choose a character but can switch at any time.

Power sliding is also a difficult part of this game. There is often a lot of work to do when you have to deal with power sliding. Players need to time it well or risk it not working and losing speed gained. Power sliding is a great addition to this racing game and something that makes this game even better.

This game has bosses to race, and once the player beats them they can play as them. Say, for example, the player beats Ripper Roo, in Nitro-Fueled mode they can immediately switch to him. This is great because sometimes players just want to switch their character.

The bosses also have their quirks. Ripper Roo is the example I’ll use, as again he is the first boss. In this race, the player will need to dodge his infinite TNT boxes. He can release all of the TNT he wants, and that can lead to a difficult race indeed. Hopefully, the player can come out on top.

This game also has multiplayer modes both online and offline. It’s just a great game to play with anyone who enjoys racing and Crash Bandicoot. Though there are players who know this game inside and out so watch out. It’s interesting seeing old and new players flock to this game, and it warms my heart.

This game is filled with cosmetic looks for characters too. It’s great seeing the characters in different skins, as it makes them feel fresh. It is interesting seeing what skin ideas the developers thought of. I enjoy seeing the different looks and racing through the high octane fun as another version of Crash for instance.

The carts are customizable too. While the base cart is what changes te handling and speed, the cosmetic stuff is great too. The carts can look wild if the player chooses the coolest accessories. It’s great seeing what the carts will look like, and making the best one for the player. There are so many combinations that players will probably have a good time simply picking their cart.

This game is a modern one, and with that comes a loot system. Similar to Fortnite, this game has a store. Players can buy characters and cart parts with in-game money. In a recent update, players can even spend real money to buy wumpa coins. The game makes sure players know they don’t have to do that. But honestly, there is no reason this needs to be in the game at all, and it is major disappointment that it is, especially when it was added later.

The shop refreshes regularly so players will want to check it out when they boot up the game each day. Players might find the coolest tires around or a sweet costume. It makes the time spent racing all the more fun because there are rewards! After racing for hours, to be able to buy something cool certainly does make it worthwhile.

This game has gotten a big touch up and looks amazing. The tracks look stunning and it’s wonderful to simply drive through and look at them. I am enjoying this new era where old games are getting redone to look like they must have in our childhoods. There are quite a few tracks and each looks breathtaking, sometimes for me anyway it’s hard to just not take in the detail.

Each track feels brand new in this game and that is something amazing. I cannot help but smile when I see how much work was put into this game to make it better and new. Even just looking at the tracks in both games shows how much was put it. The developers loved the original as much as the kids who played it.

The music is also great and envelops the player in the wider Crash world. There are different songs for every track, that just make every track even better. I can’t help but like all of the songs within the game, because they do keep in line with the older Crash music.

This game is also amazing in that it has free racing cup updates. The second event, the Back N. Time Grand Prix just started. Players can race and win wumpa coin to buy exclusive characters, carts, and accessories. There are even characters like Baby Crash and Baby Coco in this pack. I for sure want those characters as I just like to see how characters look at different stages in their lives.

With new cups every month at least so far, this game will continue to grow. Even if they bring back cups again, it will always be a game even new players can play. It is just the coolest thing, to see content appear in-game that is already just so loaded. Plus with Spyro coming in the next cup, I have to wonder if other characters could find themselves in the roster. There really could be any number of characters who could find themselves in this game, and that is an amazing thought.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a hilarious racing game. This comes from a bygone era and unleashes itself on our modern world. Play it online or with friends but the player needs to do themselves a favor and play this. There are races to win, with the Earth in the balance, will the player help Crash and co take first place?
