I want to give a disclaimer before I begin. I was very much looking forward to Titan Quest on Switch and had high hopes for the game. I thought it would satisfy my desire for a top down action RPG on the system, but I genuinely was disappointed by what I encountered. Titan Quest looks amazing from its trailer and everything said about it, but problems emerged after only just a few minutes.

To be more specific, the game just feels dated and not properly adapted to the Switch. Combat seemed smooth at first, but then the game’s automating lock-on combat. Defeat an enemy, and the game will have you automatically run towards another enemy. This seems to make sense but actually ends up getting in the way most of the time, and you will find yourself automatically running after an enemy further away instead of being able to attack the enemies that are much closer. This got bad early on and became much worse as the game progressed and it came off as extremely counterintuitive to the combat.

This wasn’t the only issue though, as the menus were cumbersome and annoying to use. I said before that the game didn’t feel like it was properly adapted for the Switch, and the menu is a prime reason. It is good for computers, but its older style of menu just didn’t adapt well to the console. What ultimately did the game in for me, was just how clunky everything in general felt. I am reminded of when Morrowind was first ported to the original Xbox, only for there to be issues given the game’s very PC centric controls.  The same issue has occurred here, and I do not feel there is an excuse. Games like Diablo have been adapted well for consoles, with even Diablo 1 on the original PlayStation feeling more intuitive. There were no changes done for the Switch version to add touchscreen or something like that, which would have been a major benefit. As such, this is less refined than the mobile version.

I wanted to like Titan Quest on Switch, but I do not. I cannot recommend this and suggest passing on it and getting something else.

  1. But honestly, i don’t mind if it plays like it did on the android port, i even enjoyed that. But since you have played it on the switch and maybe also on android, does it have the same touch screen controls? And how is the physical controls on the switch?

And also for the bugs, the game will get patches and fixed for that, or so it should, cause it’s still early access you have gotten to try on the switch, and that will be fixed before or on launch. Or atleast i hope so, and also hope the game gets multiplayer support to even play with the pc community when on the go. That would make my day. Same with the diablo 3 port the switch will be getting.

    Thanks for any replies.

    1. There are no touchscreen controls and I will edit that in. The physical controls are very awkward at best

    2. Playing it myself. I really don’t have an issue with the controls. The game feels good on switch and while the menus are a bit cumbersome once you get used to it, it’s not so bad. The control with the pro control is also better that the joycons but they work out alright if you have to play that way. Performance wise is not bad either with lots of enemies on screen at times. Some dips here and there. I think for a portal version on Switch, it’s just fine. 🙂
