Asdivine Hearts is a classic style RPG that originally came out on mobile devices in 2014. The game is out now on Switch and feels right at home on the console. This game might be filled with anime tropes but it is a solid RPG in its own right. These tropes include childhood friends and insane hairstyles among others.

Asdivine Hearts stars Zack and Stella, two childhood friends who are out to save the world. They soon meet a cat in the woods who is taken over by a demon. This demon quickly takes the cat over and becomes another party member. It is always nice to have an animal in the party, especially one taken over by a sly demon.

Asdivine Hearts has a rather old school RPG mechanics, with nothing too flashy. This is good because it is nice to go back to the basics. While relatively basic, the player can be strategic and place their party members in different spots to turn the tide of battle. It is also important to place your party members in the right areas. Depending on where they are on the map, the battle can flow differently.

There is also an interesting item called, ‘The Rubix.’ This allows the player to place blocks reminiscent of Tetris and changes their character’s stats. While not as robust as other stat changing game mechanics, it does make the game more interesting. Laying out the pieces in the best possible way is worthwhile, as it can change how the party works. Changing pieces out is worthwhile to maximize the team.

The world is a stellar one, with life and character. It’s nice to walk around and feel out the world, and this one certainly has its charms. There is also voice acting which I can’t get enough of. The voice over work is done well, and it adds to the flow of the game’s story. Even if the game itself doesn’t completely shine, it is nice to know that they put in thought and decided to include voice acting.

Players will spend a good amount of time exploring and fighting monsters as the story’s plot continue to unfold. It’s a simple yet exciting RPG, with interesting characters and a story that acts as a conduit to adventure. This game takes a lot from old-school RPG’s and is the incentive for people to pick it up. Nostalgia is a beautiful thing when done right, and in its way this game is filled with pleasant nostalgia. There are sidequests but , the game functions pretty basically. That’s not to say this a bad thing, but the player shouldn’t go in expecting the world of this game.

This is definitely a mobile game come to the console, and while it might not be terrible, it’s not perfect either. Walking around the world, it’s clear that the game wasn’t as polished as they wanted. But that’s okay, not all games can be really polished. This game is an affordable RPG, with a decent story, nice voice acting, and a solid battle system.

While it might not be one of the king’s of RPG’s, it is definitely worth playing. Zack and Stella are enjoyable characters and adding the three other party members make for a nice group. It is great to see mobile RPG’s come to the Switch, and this one is no exception. There’s a classic RPG world to explore, so pick up Asdivine Hearts and explore away.
