Castle of Heart was announced with a lot of hype behind it. It looked like an excellent throwback platformer with modern graphics, and had a lot of interest in it due to being exclusive to the Switch. Now that the game is out though,  is it worth getting or a game that should be avoided?

Castle of Hear has great visuals, I will give it that. The problems however, are noticeable from the very beginning due to the clunkiness of the controls. Even simply moving forward feels tougher than it should, so of course combat doesn’t feel right. You must constantly attack enemies to keep your health from depleting, but due to the poor feeling with the controls, I cannot find myself having any fun there. You get additional weapons such as a crossbow at times and this does shake up the monotony for a bit, but once again the poor controls make this just a slog.

I was excited for the game like many others due to it looking like a modern style Castlevania game with Dark Souls elements, but it feels like the worst elements of those games instead of the best parts that people liked. This is a problem many other games that try and appeal to nostalgia have. I would love to see this game get patched eventually and the issues fixed, but until that happens I cannot recommend this game at all. It just feels like a disappointment especially after all the hype people had for it, and I take that as a warning to myself going forward. I am willing to re-review the game in the future if there are indeed patches and fixes, so I will not completely close the book on the game. I am simply saying that the game is not good at the moment.
