Before reading this review, there is one thing I wish to make clear this review will contain minor spoilers for the series and will likely spoil some of the more important episodes because there is a lot to talk about with this anime. With this in mind let’s begin the review of in my humble opinion 2019’s best anime, Carole and Tuesday.

The main duo themselves, Carole [Right], Tuesday [Left]
Story: This anime is pretty self explanatory, this focuses on a duo known as Carole and Tuesday who come from two different worlds, 1 from a rich family, Tuesday Simmons who migrates to Alba City in search of a ideal she can believe in after running away from home. Then there is Carole Stanley, a orphan and a migrant from Earth who happens to live in the metropolis known as Alba City on Mars in the year 0049. The two eventually encounter one another and decide to go after a singing career together after a few mishaps and misunderstandings, which lead to some interesting adventures and even encounters with other famous superstars of that time period. During the course of the story we meet Gus who ends up becoming their manager and Roddy, a former assistant to the DJ Ertegun who decides to help promote and establish Carole and Tuesday’s social media presence.

The DJ Ertegun during Mars’s Brightest competiton

Alba City during the anime is at a impasse with a Presidential Election and one of those candidates happens to be Tuesday’s Mother, Valerie Simmons who does not approve of Tuesday’s decisions or career choices as a whole. The story as a whole is very interesting and it explores a lot of issues that we face today in reality, with rights being trampled on and other major political issues which are very much in danger. Carole and Tuesday’s story is a very fascinating one and should be watched in it’s entirety with it’s wonderful ideals, heartfelt emotions and the bond that the main duo share throughout this 24 episode adventure is just fantastic. I am giving Carole and Tuesday’s story a A+, it’s one of the best I have ever had the honor to witness in my life and that is saying something.

                                                         Tuesday’s Big Brother, Spencer Simmons

Audio: The main theme for this is of course music and what better way for a music anime to give us very original songs, completely written from scratch to listen to in most of the episodes. With the theme of this anime being music there is a lot of amazing songs aired in this 24 episode masterpiece, the songs sung in this vary from techno to even soft jazz which shows the level of detail here. Of course we cannot forget that all of the episode names are famous song titles as well, with so many familiar artists like Janis Joplin, the Who, U2 and so many more. Songs in the anime are on par with the voice acting, they give credence to the story and provide a moment where you can experience the ideals of what is trying to be presented.

Roddy [Left] and Gus the Manager [Right]
With the level of quality that the story presented for the anime, the audio is pretty much on par with it, with amazing musical moments, quality voice acting and even the musical numbers presented in specific episodes really give this one a charm all it’s own. In the audio department I have to give this another A+ for sure, it’s by far one of the most interesting audio based animes out there.

Alba City, set on Mars during the year 0049

Visuals: Visually this series is stunning, with unique character designs to the backdrops of various places where the story takes place, each scene is well represented with a style of it’s own. From even the visuals during songs and performances, this series does not disappoint with it’s style and unique visual take on the genre of musical animations. Character designs even for the most minor of characters who get only a few moments of screen time are well done to the point you just wanna see more of them, it’s flare for the dramatics are unrivaled. Visually this series is a eye opener and handles the visual aspects well, I am giving the visuals for Carole and Tuesday a solid A+, this series cannot be understated at all with it’s unique design.

Tuesday [Left] and Carole [Right] during the Grammy awards, [Note: this is a minor spoiler]
Overall: If you are looking for a animation to pick up in 2019, this is one of the best of the year. It handles itself well, lending good story telling, great audio and visuals along with a amazing narrative which reflects issues of today. Overall Carole and Tuesday in my mind is the best animation of 2019 thus far and it shows that these kinds of animes can be done right when given time and development. I am giving Carole and Tuesday a overall score of a A+, there is no doubt in my mind this is one you cannot miss, heck I think I am going to rewatch the entire thing from scratch again after this.

Carole and Tuesday aired from April 10th to October 2nd, with it’s first half airing currently on Netflix, the 2nd half of the anime is scheduled to air later in December on Netflix for those waiting patiently to see the conclusion of this one. The series was directed by Shinchiro Watanabe and it’s production was handled by the studio Bones.

  1. okay bold carole’s full name, you did it for everyone else’s name need to do that for her too, or unbold them all, don’t care which way you go but consistency.

For the first picture list characters from left to right, I know why you did right to left to go with the name of the show, but 99% of your readers are non-asian. they look left to right in the picture and read the same direction. flipping it like that is just a bit weird.

“The story as a whole is very interesting and it explores a lot of issues that we face today in reality, with rights being trampled on and other major political issues which are very much in danger”
    1. ‘face today in real life’ would be better than ‘reality’.
    2. You’ll need to explain the ‘rights being trampled on’, which ones specifically and where that way people know what kind of rights are being trampled on.
    3. ‘other major political issues which are very much in danger’ this doesn’t work, re-write that bit cause it doesn’t make sense or actively mean anything.

overall your overview of the anime is better than it previously has been.

First sentence for audio needs to be re-written, make it two sentences maybe, it flows really awkwardly.

Overall much better review than the previous ones.
Only thing you should learn to do, Oxford commas, if you don’t know what they are exactly ask one of your editors if they’re worth their salt they will know. Now Oxford commas aren’t required, but, by the nine, they make things look better. And, when you get use to using them, you’ll find places you should commas elsewhere more easily. I found a few places you needed them in the article, but they weren’t major detractors so I didn’t bother to say anything about them.
