West of Loathing is a fantastic RPG game that is out now on the Nintendo Switch. This game is a stellar stick figure game telling the story of a young farmer who heads out to the west to find his fortune. This game seems rather bare bones at first but it is quite deep. The fact that it is about stick figures might make anyone second guess playing this game but it is worth picking up.

West of Loathing is an RPG with 3 different classes for the player to start the game as. The Cow Puncher is the straightforward attacker and can dish out a lot of damage. Beanslingers are the magic class of the game and deal decent magic damage. The last class is the Snake Oiler which is more about speed and buffs, which are also important in an RPG. All three classes are unique and it is rather fun choosing between such strange jobs. The character creation also has a little shooting minigame to raise the player’s bounty.

West of Loathing is a pun-filled game and the player should crack up at least a few times while playing. The game has fantastic writing and a great story that is filled with twists and turns. There are events players can miss out on if they aren’t careful. The player may even have to play the game multiple times to not miss out on all that goes on in the game. Visiting places with different items equipped and in the player’s inventory will allow the game to move differently. In one instance the player will face three snakes, there is a quest to pick up snake skins and this is the only place to do it. The snakes don’t respawn so the player will need to pick up a skinning knife before taking on the snakes. Playing through the game up to this point the player probably won’t realize this and will just destroy the snakes.

This game is definitely one that can be planned down to the letter in a lot of places. It is rather different than most, as it really forces the player to think before they act. This game can be played however the player likes but isn’t going to hold the player’s hand and tell them everything that they need to know. This game is as unforgiving as the West itself and that is a great thing.

The story itself is also fantastic and shows how arduous the West was. The player and their companion will head out deeper into the west and fight tons of monsters while gathering items and saving people. Leveling up and gaining skills is paramount as sometimes skills are missable. The player should also read all the books they can as the books can even give the player skills that they would probably never pick up otherwise.

The characters in this game are also rather hilarious and the player has the chance to have a few join up with him. Helping out these people before heading west the player can join up with one. They each have their own backstory and in the West, everyone needs all the help they can get. The other characters are often simply insane and the player can glean a good deal from them. It is interesting to see the world expand and interact with so many people. The player never knows when they will find people, the player might even find someone in a bathroom. The characters push the envelope and talking to everyone is made even easier because the player will want to know what they will say.

West of Loathing is a deceptively deep game with a simple gloss. A game that players shouldn’t overlook as it is much fuller than it appears. It is always interesting to play a game such as this because the player has no idea what is going to happen next. There is a sense that things can be done once and will be missed. The game even tells the player to be sure that they are ready to move onto the next part of the journey.

West of Loathing is an excellent game that is now out on Switch. If players enjoy RPG’s and westerns they would be doing themselves a disservice not buying this game. The writing is excellent and the game filled with different events and hilarity. West of Loathing is out now on Nintendo Switch and is definitely worth picking up. So, saddle up your horse and head out, pardner.
