Take-Two Interactive Software has announced it is acquiring Zynga for a$12.7 billion deal, as confirmed on Monday. This amount will include Take-Two paying $9.86 per share in addition to taking on Zynga’s debt. This is being done so that the company can make moves into the mobile market.

This purchase is now the largest monetary acquisition ever in video games, following Microsoft’s 2020 acquisition of Bethesda for $7.5b, Tencent’s 2016 acquisition of Clash of Clans studio Supercell for $8.6b and Activision Blizzard’s 2015  purchase of Candy Crush developer King for $5.9 billion.

Zynga is best known for FarmVille and Words with Friends, even though the former closed down permanently in December 2020.
