Pokémon Café Mix is a brand new puzzle game out now on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. This game released rather quickly after being announced at the Pokémon Presents on June 17th. This puzzle game a simple and sweet one about running a Pokémon café. Fans of all ages should have a lovely time making drinks and sweets for Pokémon. The game at launch has one hundred levels to play through. These levels all involve the player swirling small Pokémon head symbols around to make treats. The Pokémon heads get cleared as the player links them together. It’s a simple game but can get hectic as more ideas pop up.
Pokémon Café Mix has a variety of mechanics that come into play. Players will have to match heads while also completing goals. These goals range in difficulty and might have the player losing a few times. Sometimes it’s because they linked the wrong Pokémon. This game is so sweet that losing doesn’t hurt. The player will get new recipes as the game progresses. These recipes require different ingredients, such as sugar or tomatoes. Sugar is broke up by matching Pokémon heads next to it repeatedly. The tomatoes need to be dropped in the basket below, but mixing can lead them far away from the goal. It gets intense, and as fun, as it is, it can be tricky.
Pokémon also have leader skills. As the player serves the Pokémon they become more friendly with the team. Soon they will offer to work with the café. The first Pokémon helper is Eave, and linking enough pairs will pop a few heads. Charmander is second, and its power pops heads to the left while Snubbull pops heads below. Picking the right leader skill will make or break a person’s chance of winning. Players can also make their leader skills stronger. By mixing enough heads and fusing two leader skills, the effect will be enhanced. Sometimes the assistant in the game Leah will offer her support in the form of a megaphone that will destroy a few heads when used. These two items are going to help a great deal, so use them wisely. Players also gain access to a few other powers. While they might get some for free in the beginning, they will soon cost golden acorns or actual money. Players can earn Golden Acorns by playing the game, so use them wisely. These powers can clear full rows or change a Pokémon head into the leader’s head, so they are even more precious.
The Pokémon Café slowly but surely grows as the player plays. It’s great seeing the café add new items to the menu and expand. The Pokémon will continue to come, and this game is full of promise. I’m sure the café will continue to grow until the Pokémon Company deems the game is over Pokémon Café Mix is such a sweet game that I won’t mind solving a few puzzles here and there. The café is also lovingly designed and looks almost like a storybook to me. I enjoy the aesthetic and think that the game looks lovely. The characters are happy, and the Pokémon ready to enjoy treats and work. I love that the game has a different art style than others, and its a nice touch. Plus, seeing all of the add-ons is a treat! Players can also gain daily rewards for playing the game. This game provides rewards players with a hefty amount of Golden Acorns just for playing. Playing for five days will reward the player with a Pikachu. This Pikachu is different from the one that players who pay for it will get, so that’s nice.
Pokémon Café mix is a great puzzle game. I enjoy the aesthetic, and the café looks so charming. The recipes are magical and well designed. It’s also great to see other facets of the Pokémon world. The world might be lead by battles and the strongest, but other people find their way without Pokémon battles. Pokémon Café Mix is a great side game, and it is free to play, so try it out. If running a puzzle café with Pokémon sounds fun, pick up this game, and get baking!
