Infliction Extended Cut is a horrific story-driven adventure game that takes place in a rather standard home. This game tells the story of a family ripped apart by death. The Prout family might have been happy once, but due to events beyond their control, they are now rather far gone.

The player must run around the house completing tasks and puzzles. The game is rather tense, even in bright light. I played a little in both and found that, yes, it is scary in either light or darkness. Unlike other horror games, the player can’t adjust the brightness, so the game is going to be dark. Though, the main character does get a flashlight to help them see. This game is all it makes itself out to be a horror game through and through.

This game is tense, and the main character can die. The game will autosave when the protagonist completes a task, so the player doesn’t have to worry. Sometimes random events will kill the player, and it adds a tenseness to the world. At one point, if the player opens the wrong door, they will immediately die. This game is a horror game, and it proves itself to be worthy of that title again and again. Players will find glowing objects scattered around the house. These objects are fuel for memories. Finding them will start a voice-over from the wife, which tells the lore of the world. They are fun to listen too because it gives the game more life. Though, the voice acting is often terrible.

I will say that the voice acting isn’t always all its cracked up to be. The voice actress for the wife’s voice is jarring and pops up a lot. She is in distress most of the time, but I wouldn’t have used her voice if I could help it. Though it sometimes works, it just took me out of things a little. There are also some instances where the character art is awful. There were a few instances where the wife looked so eerie that she was almost cartoonish. While I appreciate a want to be scary, sometimes pushing boundaries too far takes the player out of the horror.

Infliction Extended Cut is a pretty solid horror game. This game isn’t the most terrifying, but the tension sure does build. The story isn’t bad either, and the environments are well designed. The house is the focal point for the story, and it’s great taking it in. The game takes place in the ’90s, and earlier also makes it interesting. There is a demon haunting a house will the player take it down?
