Rage 2 is a new post-apocalyptic open world game. It is the sequel to the game Rage which it seems not many have played. While the first one might not be required to play this, the player could miss little nods. Rage 2 does play well on its own though, and that is definitely a good thing.

Rage 2 stars a character named Walker, who can either be a male or female. Walker is raised in a fort along with his childhood friend, who just so happens to be the daughter of the commander of the fort. After a vicious battle with General Cross the villain of the game, Walker is forced to become the last Ranger. The Rangers were an elite group that ends up getting taken out in the pre-game climactic battle.

Walker is then tasked with reviving an awesome plan known as Project Dagger. To do so Walker must reunite the three big leaders and have them deliver their part of the plan. Project Dagger will certainly take a good amount of work, and through exploration, it will be possible.

Helping these three leaders sends Walker to do many tasks. Walker will need to do all he can to save the day. There are three different main styles with multiple different missions. It’s always good to complete as many as possible but they do range from level one to level ten.

One leader Noosum needs players to root out bandits and their hideouts. Kvasir needs technological discoveries documented. The last leader Marshall requires more beating of villains around the wastes. All in all, while they might not always be the greatest side missions it’s great that all the work is towards one goal.

Helping these leaders will level up their bases so they can activate Project Dagger. It will also give Walker upgrade points to upgrade their abilities. It is important to use these points in the right way, and that can change depending on how the player plays the game.

The combat in this game is where the game shines the brightest. There is something electrifying about combat. The combat is so fluid and taking down enemies is just thrilling. Players can take them out with weapons or powers or a mixture of them.

There are many different powers to unlock in the game. They can actually change the game rather drastically. Mixing and matching can always be re-done with an item so don’t take it too seriously but it still should be thought out. I enjoy mixing and matching powers and changing how battles flow.

Players will also need to keep an eye out for arks. Arks are filled with old world tech that will beef up Walker’s arsenal. There are weapons and powers hidden in these Arks that will definitely change the game. Players will also find ammo which is definitely a necessity in this game after completing each Ark. As they complete the Ark the baddies will be alerted to the area and obviously, the player will want to wipe them out.

Players can upgrade all of the powers and weapons in the game too. In this game, players will gather items which will help to increase the power of weapons and abilities. There are often abilities which players will have to choose between. Players will need to choose the right upgrade, but again they can always reset them if need be.

Rage 2 offers up the ability to drive anything and to kill anything. This game certainly delivers on this promise. There are countless vehicles to drive around the wasteland. There are some interesting rides to be sure, and it is always great to find a new one. Once the player brings the vehicle to a trade town they will find that they can summon that vehicle anywhere. It’s also good to upgrade these rides when the player can.

But the most important vehicle has to be the Phoenix. The Phoenix is Walker’s personal vehicle and one that will surely be the player’s go to ride. The Phoenix is upgradeable and packs quite the punch when maxed out. The coolest thing about this vehicle has to be that Walker can fix it by focusing. Plus it is even voiced, and that provides a little peace of mind.

Players’ will also see a wide variety of enemies to kill. Some of them are monstrous creatures, and some are simple humans. This game is all about killing anything that gets in the player’s way. It is always so amazing to take down these vicious creatures. It’s usually rather formulaic beating these monsters though as their weak spots are usually right out in the open.

The world of Rage 2 is actually beginning to heal in this game. In Rage, the world was dead, and in need of healing. In this game, the world has aged and there is quite a lot of green. It is rather magical seeing a wartorn world begin to heal things up. The world wants to make itself better and it’s clear as the player explores it.

I also enjoy seeing that the old world tech is so everpresent. There is something nearly magical about this old school tech. There might be some crazy things in this world but the old school tech is certainly still something worth collecting.

Speaking of being voiced, Rage 2 has voice acting. The characters speak when Walker walks by. But the main players have full cutscenes where the real details are hashed out. These main players always look insane as this is in a post-apocalyptic world. It’s interesting to see what characters will look like and to hear their voices. Sometimes the voices might not go with the characters but the voice work is solid.

The music in this game is also pretty fantastic. While not everpresent when the player enters combat rocking music starts to play. This music certainly changes up the game and makes every battle that much more intense. It is great to have a slightly silent world and then fill it with electrifying music. While certainly not the best music, it does change up the way the game feels.

Rage 2 is a fantastic game and one that shows an amazing post-apocalyptic world. Walker might not be the greatest hero but the world is vast and worth exploring. If the player has any want to ride through a devastated world they might pick this up. Walker might be the last ranger, but he will defeat General Cross, will the player help?
