Charlotte, NC: Working adult and gamer, Scott Mercer, was called out for being a “casual” while trying to play a friendly game of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Mercer, who works full time as an electrical engineer, plays some nights and weekends and was taken aback by the comment from another player on the same team.
“Apparently, my kill ratio wasn’t high enough or something,” Mercer said. “I told the other guy that I was a bit rusty since I haven’t been able to play for a while because of my job. That’s when he called me a casual.”
This isn’t the first time that Mercer has been called names in a game, but he was most upset by the term “casual.”
“I work over forty hours a week,” Mercer said. “I have to provide for myself and my family. I can’t play Call of Duty twenty-four/seven. The term ‘casual’ is so offensive to the working gamer. It’s like we aren’t serious about gaming just like anyone else. That’s just not true.”
Mercer says that this will not affect his future gaming, however.
“I enjoy gaming after my long day of work. Just because I have a mortgage and a retirement plan doesn’t mean that I’m not going to appreciate my favorite hobby.”
